Spikes without a supporting wall do nothing.

Yeah, I know. I was just building in a practice server with unlimited resources. Enemies tend to destroy them anyway, but if they didn't you could reset the trap by layering the bottom up one further. I dislike the wide spike design now anyway since it has very little chance of doing more than hurting the enemy.

When I get my site done this weekend (showcase site for building designs, etc.), can you post these?

@MM: Will add some of those to the player constructions-page when I find time. And those tipps could maybe go to an extra Tipps/Beginners-page.

Regarding the Dual Direction Wall...isn't the version with Trap Doors superior? I mean, it takes so much less Wood to lay down.

Depends. If knights can get over the wall by destroying doors, they may be tempted to do so instead of breaking through the wall itself - and you can probably replace the doors easier than rebuilding the entire structure if it collapses.

That's a big what-if though. Me and Sevenless have messed about with player psychology before, attempting to divert players into doing what we want through how we build and what we make appear to be the "easy way". (Unless I'm mistaking Sevenless for someone else, ha ha ha).

Drawbridge ladder w/ spikes in between "rungs" > door ladder.

Less expensive and spikes will do damage AND builders can't place drawbridge on your wall. With the door ladder, enemy builders can easily make a drawbridge ladder where there are stone blocks. And then they're hard to break because they disappear when you come close.

Probably the best is the drawbridge ladder + spikes set by trees so ladders cant be built + spike trap at bottom.

It took me a bit to figure out how to place a drawbridge ladder while jumping up a sheer surface, without building scaffolding or anything, but it can be done quickly. This makes it feasible to build them quickly in naturally occurring pits on the front lines.

Another way that drawladder/doorladders are superior to regular ladders: they're faster to climb up.

a similar speed can be achieved by putting ladders every other block
