First of all, i don't have any console yet, and i completely rely on my PC for gaming.
I have always been skeptical about consoles, but this time i think it's better if i hear other people's opinion, because i'm not an expert on this.

    Here are my System Specs:
CPU: Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.20 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB
    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600
    DirectX Version: 11.0
    PSU: 550 W

As you can see, my Graphics Card is pretty old.
I'm unsure wether i should spend my money on a console or a Graphics Card.
If i would buy a new Graphics Card, would i need to buy something else too?

I would like some opinions on the best (cheapest and most effective) way to go.
    Thanks.

Despite how much time around here I am mainly a console gamer. I find PC gaming to be kind of a hassle, even for simple things like KAG. With consoles you don't have to mess around with compatibility, you don't have to hunt down new versions of x codec flash player c++ bullshit. You won't find a console game that runs poorly just because "it doesn't like your rig". Consoles are great for lying on your couch like a slob, using a comfortable controller (sure you can do both of these things with PCs but hardly anyone does) and playing splitscreen with friends. I'm sure most of us have spent a shittone of time sitting shoulder to shoulder with out buds, controller in hand, with someone getting punched for being too good with a sniper rifle.

Consoles just work much smoother and are more user friendly. If you're the kind of guy who likes to spend lots of time getting stuff to work or messing with config files, then get a PC. If you're the kind of guy who just wants to shoot some face at the end of a hard day's work, then get a console.

Well, i have always preferred my PC mainly for piracy.
But besides that, PCs are very customizable in every way. Consoles, for example, don't get Mods for games.
Also, in consoles, it's a pain in the ass to type in the chat, and you can't have a microphone on the PS3.
For the "friends" part, i think the PC excels here too. How? Because you can't carry a console around: see, i have a Desktop PC, but from time to time, my friend comes by my house and brings his Laptop so i can open my Minecraft server and we play together using both PCs.

I've been very very skeptical about consoles because of the exclusives too.
Where do you think Indie games go? Not on consoles for sure.

In addition, console games are kept in Discs. But PC games are installed and played in the PC, so i don't have to worry about scratching a disk.
Many games also work (and look, but i don't really care about graphics) much better on the PC.
Battlefield 3 for example (not that i'm interested in that game, just making an example) has an online of 64 players on the PC. On consoles it can barely reach 24.

A good PC is obviously more expensive than a console, but i think there's a reason for that.
So basically these are the things that keep me back from buying consoles: slow typing, the fact that i can't upgrade it, the fact that most games work and look better on PC, impossible (or atleast difficult) piracy, the online comes at a cost (xBox 360 only), no indie games, no MMORPGs, no flash games, but most of all: no mods. Have you seen what the community did with Oblivion? And Minecraft? That's the stuff you ain't going to get on consoles.

Oh, hey, and let's not forget about the mouse!
God only knows how many times i've been failing at aiming with my friend's controller...

The main reason why i'm making this thread, is because i don't know if a Graphics Card is more expensive than a Console.
If i'd buy a graphics card, i would just keep playing my games. But if i'd buy a console, i would need to buy games for it too.
    So i'm still unsure...

What i really like about the consoles is the ability to have a bunch of friends gather around the TV for some pizza and games... Always a good way to spend the evening. Shame developers stopped knowing how to make games with proper splitscreen co-op (I can only play gears of war and halo so many times before I get fed up with it.)! Imean seriously what is up with that? Its online only every. single. time.

If i have to buy a console, i'll take the xBox 360 because it's almost impossible to pirate Blu Ray discs.
I appreciate your opinions, but i think there's a little bit of misconception here.
I'm asking "should i buy a new graphics card or a console?", not "is a PC is better than consoles?" .

Or you'll just wait till Christmas and get a console that's not been announced yet. Most consoles are quite outdated right now.

Well, actually you can buy indie games on xbox through the Xbox Live shop. :p (And not just only minecraft...)
Oh and the price of graphics cards varies (?) a lot. You can get good ones for about 120€... Well you can't play games on ultra-mega-high settings, but they still do their jobs :)
