If Notch coded something like that, home pcs would be able to run it in about 5 years.

nahhhh. hopefully within the next year or so, we will have cpus with 20GHZ octo core and graphics cards with 20Gb VRAM... hopefully.

Btw, go here: Euclideon and check out the first video you see. It will blow your mind.

Yeah, but like Notch said, the way the guy talks makes it sound like bullshit.

Doesn't seem like BS to me. It's very believable, especially with the demonstration. The only problem is that he needs some live action, with unlimited detail props moving instead of a camera moving.

Euclidean's way of creating their world is fantastically optimized. Why did no one think to draw an atom every pixel? I hope to see more from their technology in the coming year, especially collision control and animation. When and if we see these things, (which they said would be some of the final items we see before release) there will be very large bricks to be shat.

    EDIT:

Forgot to mention dynamic lighting. That will tank performance. Really hope they pull through like we've seen them do before.

problem is though, if we play crysis 5 with this new engine, half the time playing will be spent staring at every single grain of sand in the game :D

It doesn't matter how a game is rendered if it looks like shit.

Oh, and pretty cool thing Torchic.

It doesn't matter how a game looks if the gameplay sucks.

EDIT: Derp an off topic post went off topic.

They plan to release this soon. Crysis 5 will likely be released (if it ever is) on a next or next-next generation console or computer. This technology is scheduled to release THIS generation, and if it can perform to what my imagination says it can, that's many-many years before its time.

    One can only hope.

They showed us all a live demo of their software in real time on only a laptops CPU. They barely touched the graphics card, and have not really ventured out of the CPU yet. ON A LAPTOP. In fact, the exact same laptop I'm using right now. It's an incredible piece of technology to be running on only a laptops CPU.

I only hope more people accept this as a possibility, in stead of blindly following notch and saying this is a total hoax. This technology is not necessarily voxel software, as Notch suggests. But I'm sure someone much more educated in this field can provide proof here.

Well actually it kinda does. You have to be able to look at the game without turning off the tv or monitor in disgust.

This is not game development. This is only a graphics, (and hopefully,) a physics engine. Imagine the type of games that could be created with this software. Imagine playing the sims with unlimited detail software. I would play sims 1 with unlimited detail software, and I would be mouth-agape.

You're definitely not seeing the larger picture with this software. Yes, gameplay matters, but those choices are the developers choices. This technology could bring us into the future, and it could bring us into the future far faster than expected.

We were talking about something else. You know, how game developers blame the software when their games just look like shit.

Hm... List. Halo ODST, CoD Black Ops, Borderlands, Killing Floor... They all have good gameplay but bad graphics, and the devs all blame the software.
