Spawn camping in TDM

    If one team manages to secure the other's spawn point, it becomes almost impossible for the other to make a comeback. I think a small stone structure with team doors over the spawn would fix this problem neatly. Simply giving players a small invulnerability period after spawning would work as well.

    It's the whole respawns thing. Change it back to old RDM style!

    Yeah, Rapid Team Deathmatch is far superior to that garbage we have now.

    Reasons why rtdm is superior to tdm:

    1. One newb cant ruin it for the entire team by getting himself killed over and over.
    2. Spawn camping doesn't exist.
    3. People fight better and are more careful, as dying has a greater consequence.
    4. Killing people is more satisfying.

    Respawning also ruins the art of RDM maps- at least when I made them I put a lot of attention into really delicate details like how long it takes for each team to get to certain positions, where contact is likely to happen, where you can bomb jump too... But all of this movement and positioning is made almost insignificant when people are just popping it all throughout the round.

    yeah, I miss rtdm. can it be modded? because that would be nice.

    Most of the tdm maps we have now seem uninspired, with no thought gone into them.
    It seems like somebody just thought, oh how about a tunnel here, and a trampoline there, a few shops inside there, and we're done.
    The old tdm maps were great. I might convert some to beta. (If I can be screwed)

    I see many problems with changing the current settings and keeping the current settings.

    You can make the spawn immunity last longer, but that leads to people being immune too long and can cause them to get a few kills for free.

    If you keep it the same people will continue to be spawn killed.

    You could have it you only spawn once, but that changes the entire play style of the gamemode.

    You could change the map by adding a structure to cover the spawn, but Kegs, Bombs, Drills, really anything can get through that in a few seconds. Then it is also now an enclosed space with direct exits that can easily be blocked.

    You could put up one of the barriers that blocks people from passing through that is used in the CTF and War playlists. It could be set so that the enemy team can not get through it and only you can go in and out. Though, the leads to people staying in spawn rather than fighting and archers firing through it without being able to be killed. It also makes it so a map has to be built for this concept to work.

    You could create new maps where it is harder for people to reach the enemy's spawn. Ex) putting both spawns on top of a tall cliff. Though, this makes it hard for both team to reach it. Also leads to team staying in spawn instead of attacking.

    I guess the only thing you really can do is what makes it slightly better. You can't really make this gamemode perfect by changing anything.

    uhhhh... yeah, rtdm was near perfect last time I checked.
    It will change the entire playstyle of the gamemode for the better.

    RTDM is already modded. Just no one uses it.

    The issues with TDM currently are all related to the fact that no one uses any of the many custom TDM maps, and also related to the fact we don't get a 1-2 second invincibility when leaving spawn!

    The lack of invincibility is the big one, at least give enough time for a person to quickly switch classes if need be, or to grapple away or shield, right now you can't even do any of that! Let alone fight back!
    Discouraging spawn camping and preventing it from happening would probably cause more TDM servers to be up...

    Also RTDM yes please, I'll play both.

    I'm pretty sure you get a few seconds of invincibility when spawning. Just disables at any attack.

    yeah, you get a few seconds of invincibility, but you can still be stunned.

    Another good way to handle it is give players like 8 seconds of "ghost" where you go straight through players and attacks, but you can't attack anything either.

    That's a good idea, though 8 seconds is way too much with how small the maps are. Maybe 3-4 seconds?

    6 seconds. You need time to get away, enough so you are not at a disadvantage.

    I modified TDM ito old RDM a while ago but I have no server to test if I did it correctly.
