Teeworlds - Jumping The Jun

Today I want to introduce a very good game Teeworlds. I am sure that many have played this game and I am sure that this game deserves a place in this topic =)

So let's begin

Teeworlds is a free open source fast-paced sidescrolling multiplayer-only computer game. The game features simple cartoon-themed graphics and physics, and relies heavily on classic shooter weaponry and gameplay. The controls are heavily inspired by the First-person shooter genre of computer games. The latest release (0.6.0) was on April 09, 2011[1], and the game is still under active development. As of version 0.4.0, the game's and website's name changed from Teewars to the current Teeworlds, with the developers citing unspecified legal reasons.

Teeworlds presents itself as a crossover between classic sprite-based shoot-em-up games of the arcade era and modern-day first-person shooters. It is played on two-dimensional, side-scrolling maps typical of the platformer genre, but utilizes FPS-style keyboard controls for moving, switching weapons and chatting. The mouse is used for aiming. The game also sports a grappling hook and double-jump mechanics for maneuvering.

The weapons are inspired by FPS games such as the Quake and Unreal Tournament series. The player spawns with two basic weapons: a wooden mallet and a pistol. The pistol is the only weapon that regenerates its ammunition over time but has the lowest damage of one hp (health point) per hit. The hammer has no ammo but is used to whack players three damage per hit and is commonly used as a last resort weapon in close range combat. Throughout the map, the player can find three additional weapons. The shotgun is a medium-range weapon that fires five pellets; each with a potential one damage while causing five damage if hit all at once. The grenade launcher is an indirect fire weapon and its projectile causes splash damage on impact. Being it has the highest possible damage infliction of all additional weapons, it is frequently used as a primary weapon in all vanilla game-types. The rifle is a laser-like weapon that was introduced in the 0.4.0 release. Its narrow beam is long range and can bounce around corners. The spawn locations of these additional weapons, enables the gamer to pickup or reload the weapon when ammunition supplies run short. On some maps, the katana, considered a “power up” weapon, is available for combat. It inflicts the highest damage and has the longest respawn time of all the weapons while also preventing the holder from switching weapons.

Players may also "double jump" and use a grappling hook. The grenade launcher's blast radius can also be used to provide additional movement, at the cost of self-inflicted damage. Rocket jumps propel the player higher than double jumps, "rocket boosts" give extra momentum on hook swings, and a "rocket climb" can be used to reach high places.
Maps consist of four types of material: ground, unhookable-ground, kill, and air. Ground acts as a basis for all maps because players can stand on and hook it. Kill tiles instantly kill the player. The only action that can be performed in air tiles is to double jump.

Gametypes

Currently, the only official gametypes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.

Modifications (or "Mods")

You can create your own mod for Teeworlds with no restrictions. Some example mods would be DDRace, FNG, and even the Ghost mod. but there are tons of mods including the freeze mod.

User created content

The game includes a map editor and uses simple image files for most of the games graphical content. As a result, it may be modified and extended, from cosmetic content additions to core engine functionality. There are some game modifications created by the community basing upon the Teeworlds server. The code is designed so that game mods can be easily integrated into the server and still be playable with the upstream client.

I've played Teeworlds a little, didn't really swallow me in.
I usually prefer slightly slower-phased multiplayer games where you can chat without crippling yourself too badly.

You need to download it. But it's only about 8mb.

360noscopes granade launchers, butthurting idiots, vote kicks on people with flag, teammates grappling your ass. That's how you play this game.

Also, if you can't get 4 kills with hammer in 4 seconds, you are dead to me.

 

So many bots. Aim bots, spin bots, botty bots.

 

Needs to be a way to mod the hammer to do more damage its only 3 hearts currently. Should be more like 5 IMO.

Okay us Action guys found the BEST custom gamemode server. Its called alien mod and plays basically like infected modes in other games.

One guy is an alien starting out and has only the hammer (and extra jumps) and has to infect the normal players who also turn into aliens. Uninfected players can lay lasers using the hammer that take armor to keep up. Players on both sides gain more power the more kills they get. The goal is for the uninfected to survive until the time is up.

Go to https://www.teeworlds.com and download and install. Disable standard servers and standard maps and type Alien in the search box to play it. ITS SOOOOO MUCH FUN.

Update again. Luigi set up an Action! server hosted in the U.S. We kept it full pretty much most of the past night. Still tweaking settings a bit.

Our server can be found by typing action in the filter box.

 

The Action server now runs the alien mod. So you don't have to connect to the German server.

 

Ya forgot to point that out :P

 

Ping one of us action people on irc or hop on our mumble. We usually all join or leave at once.
