What is Fire Emblem? Well, to put it simply, Fire Emblem is a game series created by Nintendo. It started up back in 1990, when Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryƫ to Hikari no Tsurugi (roughly translated as Fire Emblem: The Dark Dragon and Sword of Light) was released.

To put it simply, Fire Emblem is a strategy game series. To be specific, a tactics series. Y'know, like Advance Wars or any other strategy series made by Intelligent Systems. It's widely known nowadays (or at least, as far as I can tell) as one of the best tactics games in the world.

What's so unique about it? Well, first off, normally in tactics games, when someone dies they come back next chapter or battle. Sorry, no. Without some way of reviving characters (which are normally hard as hell to get) characters stay dead after death in the series, though this was recently averted thanks to the new Casual mode in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

So... Yeah. The game is fun, but frustratingly difficult. Eeessssspppeeecciiiallllyyyyy with the permadeath.

As of right now, the games released in America are:

-Fire Emblem (known in Japan as Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken, translated roughly as The Blazing Sword) for the GBA

-Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones for the GBA

-Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the Gamecube

-Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii

-Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (notable for being the only remake in the whole series (or at least the only one released globally)) for the DS

-Fire Emblem: Awakening for the 3DS

Most of the time, the games have little in common. Awakening, however, now is tied to practically every game in a way through the DLC function, which allows you to recruit characters from previous games.

    So... Screencaps/artwork/images/whatever:

Seth, a paladin, battles a zombie. Screenie from The Sacred Stones.

Nino, a mage, attacks Nergal, a Dark Druid. Screenie from Blazing Sword.

A screenie of the first map in Blazing Sword's bonus story. Hector and Matthew, the blue units to the upper right, are surrounded. Aaaand this is the first level. Yeah, this was hard for anyone that actually played it.

Talk about everything Fire Emblem here.
I was going to have a character list, but it took too much space

I'd like to add that Fire Emblem has an item mechanic that I have seen only in a few games, every item has a limited durability/limited amount of uses.

You forgot to mention a few that were in the U.S english releases. I have been a fan of Fire Emblem for 4 years now and have played every single english release. I have also played 2 Japanese releases, as I played them in english on ROM/Emulator. Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow, and Faia Emuberemu: Seisen no Keifu (if i spelled that japanese words right.) wich is Fire Emblem: Gen

Hmm. Well, as far as I can recall (I've played every game released globally aside from Awakening) Fire Emblem has never had Casual mode. 'Course, the japanese games are... another matter.

    Final Fantasy Tactics, if anything.

Fire Emblem is one of the best strategy game series ever made.

I'm always afraid to use the most powerful weapons, though, because I feel like I'll need them later and I don't want them to be wasted.
Ended up going through the entirety of Fire Emblem 7 without using the Mani Katti even once.

    Ironic.

I've played a ton of Fire Emblem. The only Fire Emblem games I haven't played are Fire Emblem Gaiden (aka FE2), Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (aka FE4) and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (aka FE5). Technically, I haven't played Fire Emblem: Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light (aka FE1) nor Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (aka FE3), but I have played the remade versions for the DS of it.
The first Fire Emblem game I played was Fire Emblem (aka Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword aka FE7). I found it fairly interesting, the support system gave it a ton of replay-ability to me. Also, the fact that you could play through both as Eliwood and Hector to see the different perspectives was cool (Hector was the superior lord in every way). Matthew and Erk were my favorite characters.

I got pretty hooked then, so after that I moved on to Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (aka FE8). I found it a bit easier than the original because the whole world map + access to unlimited xp via the Tower of Valni, but I enjoyed the small class progression tree you had access to. Story was a bit less interesting than the FE7 though. Joshua and Marcia were probably my most used characters because of how much I like myrmidons/sword masters.

After that, I played Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (aka FE10). It was interesting to me that you basically played different sides of the war through out the game, so it made for a fairly interesting story. Biggest flaw to me was that the support system was boring and very generic, and how absurdly difficult the Dawn Brigade missions are in Hard Mode; good luck trying to keep everyone alive by the end and also still having them all be strong enough to not be a liability. It made the Greil Mercinaries look more badass though cause they had such a much easier time wrecking through everything. I also found all the Laguz units pretty cool, and using them did require a bit more strategy since they were always in either Super Powerful mode or Super Weak mode depending on if they were tranformed or not. End game was super easy however. By then, anyone you were using had hit their 3rd tier class which gave you OP skills and were broken in like every way. Ike and Mia were my favorite characters to use it that game because they could destroy everything so easy.

After that, I played Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (aka FE11). It was just a redone version of Fire Emblem: Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light (FE1). Not many things were changed apart from improved graphics and the ability to reclass one person into another class (which made some characters broken). Unlike FE7 and 8, there wasn't a real support system and overall, the game seemed simple compared to the previous. While I enjoyed the others more, I do think it had some good traits. Story wise, it was pretty good and I liked a lot of the music in it. It was very much "Epic" while also being sad. Footsteps of Fate and A Hero's Destiny are some great example and my favorites. Biggest problem with it though is that the battles between units weren't as flashy as previous games, so it was a bit lacking in that respect.

After that, I moved on to Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals (aka FE6) and while it was made before Fire Emblem 7, it's the sequel to it. While it had everything Fire Emblem Blazing Sword had mechanically and pretty much everything worked the same, it was definitely more of a dick in this game. All your units are generally really weak, or there are dick like units on the enemies side of the field (like staff users that spam berserk and sleep). Getting through hard mode was a nightmare. My favorite unit was Lilina. Unlike Roy, who was terrible in every way (until he got the Sword of Seals which made him a decent unit), Lilina was a pretty strange but cool unit to me. Her problems as a unit were that she had terrible speed skill and defenses. In most Fire Emblem games, you consider the 3 S's over anything else (Strength [or magic, if it was a magic based unit) because it directly correlates to damage, Speed because faster units always get a x2 attack and have higher dodge, and Skill which doesn't have to max out but simply just be good enough to almost always let you land 100% hits and give you a better crit rate). However, my biggest reason for using her was that she hit like a truck. She could nuke everything with 1 basic fire attack. She was fast enough to be able to double slow targets like Generals but her hit rate was pretty lacking since it was around 75%~85% for most enemies (which ends up actually being 85%~93% for True Hit)

After that, I moved on to Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~ Heroes of Light and Shadow (aka FE12). This was the sequel to Shadow Dragon and is also a remake of FE3. This game introduced MU aka My Unit aka Avatar. While it was also a fairly faithful remake of FE3 (apart from the introduction of MU and still having reclassing) and ended up basically being the same as FE11 (same fighting-wise, animation-wise, etc), I think the introduction of MU made it more interesting. It let you create your own character by choosing their initial class, appearance and slight bit of their stat growth (Merchant's Child + Beautiful + Recluse is probably the best stat distribution imo). Reclassing when you capped certain stats made MU very OP and someone who could easily take on entire map by him/herself.

Afterwards, I moved on to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (aka FE9). It seemed lacking compared to FE10 since laguz units seemed like an after thought, but it still had the standard support system. It was overall okay, but since I played the sequel before I played this one, I didn't have as much fun with it I guess. It was interesting to see the backstory of FE10, but otherwise not much for me to say on this one.
And finally, I got Fire Emblem: Awakening (aka FE13). This one has truly been my favorite Fire Emblem game so far. It takes all the best parts of the previous Fire Emblem games and also improves them. You get the Marriage + Child Inheritance from FE4. This got merged to work with the support system that was introduced in FE6 and that was later used in FE7, FE8 and FE9, however it also allows you to have as many Rank A supports as you want in 1 play through, with S rank only being one at a time since it's the marriage level relationship. You also get the world map that was added in FE8 to allow you to level up other units which means more diversity. There is also the skill system from FE9 and FE10, reclassing from FE11 and FE12 and MU from FE12. MU is so ridiculously powerful in this game since they can class change into pretty much every class in the game (which means their children also get access to almost every skill in game), can support every unit in the game, and has pretty good stats. Exploiting MU is a time sink though, so if you don't bother trying to make them broken, they'll just end up being a decent unit. The unique class "Tactician" that MU gets is pretty cool. It allows you to use both swords and magic so you can hit things harder if they are weak to physical attacks or magical attacks by switching your weapon. I've had a ton of fun with this game and simply replaying it again and again to get all the S rank supports (which will take a while because of MU, since they can marry every character).

edit: also FE:13 is pretty hilarious. This is particularly noticeable in the DLC's and some of the support conversations (especially anything with Owain, best Fire Emblem character ever imo, though he kind of sucks growth-wise because of his mother's growth rates hindering 2 of his most important stats).

Navarre/Nabarl in Shadow Dragon, with a forged killing edge, can kill everything. Marth, too.

The music... Damn, the music is awesome. In nearly every game that I've played, Together, We Ride! is the recruitment theme for practically everyone, and that is the most awesome song in existance. The main theme, naturally, comes as a close second. I've played every single globally-released game (except for Awakening) and am trying to get a translation of New Mystery.

The DLC sounds awesome (Marth, true to form, is able to wield all versions of the Falchion and gets a unique class) and... yeah.

    Why'd you link my name?

I pretty much beat shadow dragon with Navarre. Remember, dont class up at level 10, class up at level 20. That gives you a better unit.

...Yeah, Ike can destroy anything. Most of the bosses in both games consist of: Heal Ike, let Ike get attacked, Ike deals 20+ damage, Ike gets injured, heal Ike, repeat until boss is dead or Ike gets killed if you got a shitty Ike. To put it simply: What Hector is to GBA, Ike is to the consoles.

Speaking of Hector, I'm kinda disappointed he didn't make it into the DLC for Awakening. I mean, together with Marth, Ike and Roy, the player would be able to kill the final boss in a single turn. Or, at least, so I can imagine. No idea if you need the Falchion for that or what. Probably do.

In the sequel to Fire Emblem (the one with hector), Lyn is gone and it is only Hector and Eliwood. Hector: 35%, Eliwood: 35%, lyn: 30%

Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken actually came out after Sealed Sword. Rekka no Ken (that's the one you're referring to) is a prequel.

Just in case you didn't know.

I'm the same way except that my rapier always gets used up as soon as I start seeing knights everywhere. But right now i'm on my second run through of awakening and i'm only using iron and steel weapons which are really easy to get.

I did know, but I counted as a "sequel" because it takes place in the timeline AFTER eliwood, lyn, hector.... Also, one thing i've always wondered: What happened to Lyn? Why is she not in Rekka no Ken?

Well if you went through the various endings she has at the end of 7 (depending on your supports), you'd be able to figure out what happens.

If you end up with Lyn marrying Hector or Eliwood, she'd simply be the mother of Roy or Lillian, meaning that control of Caelin would probably go to Lycia (if marrying Eliwood) or Ostia (if marrying Hector) logically, (although her being the mother of Roy is unlikely considering how terrible he is lol). Anyways, in either case you don't hear much about either of Roy's or Lillian's mother, so there'd be no reason to hear of Lyn in that case.

If you go with any other ending, it explicitly states that Lyn gives control of Caelin to Ostia and that she ends up living in the Sacae plains again (either by herself, or whoever you got rank A support with). Sacae isn't really talked about all that much in 6 a part from being a place of reference from people who used to live there (Sue, Dayan and Shin). Anyways, there'd be no real reason for Lyn to be brought up in these cases as well.

A lot of the time when I play Fire Emblem, I refuse to use Unique weapons just for it's own sake. I like having a game file in the endgame with all of my valuable powerful relics in perfect shape. Occasionally I'll use one and then use a Hammerene staff or the likes.
