    I think what I was guessing was right, zombies only come at night and you have to fight through the night.
    Like A wave system you build during the day, you try to survive at night.

    Wild speculation chat on IRC earlier today, some hilights:

    First of all, we've identified the following 'blocks':
    [hole?] [quarters] [knight]
    [workshop 1] [workshop2] [outpost] [zombies]

    workshop1 could be any of the following: kitchen (cauldron & ladle or mortar & pestle), hot oil workshop (!), alchemy station for potions (?!)

    workshop2 could be: a reworked bomb workshop, a rim shop (bevelled shading make it look like a wheel, according to bandwagoman),

    I agree with ilaks, workshop two is probably for the new carry-able siege weapons.
    We already know the quarters are going to be made smaller and i think workshop 1 is for the new cooking/potionmaking feature. Also there's an outpost.

    But it does seem that the zombies only come at might, so lanterns will be widely used. Also maybe one of the new workshops makes lanterns?

    Geti has posted screenshots of stuff that isn't in the next update before. So rainbows could be right.

    True, but it is quite likely that one of them makes lanterns, or maybe the new siege machines! :D

    I don't really see why you would need a "canopy and battering ram" workshop if you are fighting the undead.

    I just cant help but hear the moans, snarls and the knocking on the door from terraria when i see this picture...

    I hope the portable ram will be usable as a weapon... zombie plowing! I also hope there will be a day/night cycle in the main gamemodes aswell because damn those lanterns make the scene so atmospheric.

    Meh, Terraria dropped its zombie attitude when it decided to make the toughest non-boss enemy in the game a unicorn.

    In any case I don't think zombies will be limited to night only (or at the very least it won't be the only option in server settings) since, that screenshot is designed to show off the features in one go, and you can't show off night without it... actually being night.
