    I'm trying to set my avatar, but I can't upload it because I get this message:
    The following error occurred: The uploaded file is not a valid image.

    The image is a .bmp file, and it is exactly 200X200 pixels. Please help!

    Tried changing it to a more common file type? .jpg, .png, .gif? My guess is the forum software doesn't support .bmp


    Edit; try to upload it to here first, just to see

    edit: Also, I just deleted my current avatar, then tried adding this one, but that didn't work either. I
    also tried other images, and yet nothing seems to work.

    Upload it as a .png file from your computer, it should work.

    Still not working. :huh?:

    What happened was I uploaded a .bmp as my avatar. Ever since then I haven't been able to change it (although I
    have been able to delete it). I don't think that's a coincidence, is it?

    Worked for me, so you might be doing something wrong, I'm just using the picture you supplied. As Stevedog said, check if you clicked the gravtar version instead, because you need to create an account first to use those

    I edited it just slightly, mind checking if it works?

    I also tried a few different formats, in case you were having a problem with format.
    hv1kA.gif .gif

    hv1kA.jpg .jpg

    hv1kA.png .png

    Lastly, if that doesn't work might checking if it might be your browser? Maybe try using a different one?

    Tried various combinations of browser and format, but nothing works. Thanks for trying guys.:(

    Firefox + .gif = nothing, Google Chrome + .gif = nothing
    Firefox + .jpg = nothing, Google Chrome + .jpg = nothing
    Firefox + .png = nothing, Google Chrome + .png = nothing

    Just for kicks, can you try it from a different computer? In the meantime either myself or shadlington will look at what error conditions can cause this specific error message

    My only guesses about the causes are:
    1) you have antivirus or an "internet security solution" software which is blocking or munging the request somehow
    2) you have a virus which is interfering with the request or corrupting the request somehow

    I suggest you look into it a bit more to make sure it is or isn't one of those two, just for peace of mind :)
