Tribes: Ascend

I'm pretty sure a few of you will have heard of this game, especially if you happen to be totalbiscuit fans.

It's often praised as being the "fastest FPS in the world" and rightly so, Not just in terms of pace but also in a literary sense. speeds upwards of 200KM/h are commonplace, flag capping is a whole different ball game with that kind of speed at your disposal.

How do you reach these speed you may be wondering? Through skiing. Basically, what skiing is, is a function built into the armour of the player which mostly eliminates all friction against the person's armor suit. What this means is that you can activate skiing at the top of a hill, gain momentum as you slide down, and then keep that momentum to propel yourself forward, allowingyou to traverse the map at insane speeds. Momentum is lost if you crash into an object, or if you start to travel uphill. To supplement this, you are also provided with a jet pack allowing you to propel yourself up hills to negate the speed lost.

Due to this mechanic and the fact that very few of the weapons are hit-scan the combat requires much more skill than your average FPS. Playing this game for the first time will result in you dying... a lot... but you'll die with style, careening at 300KM/h through the opposing teams flag stand before running headlong into an heavy defending the flag.
