Valorize Archer

Hey, i am new on the forum
I really love KAG and wanted to share some of my idea/opinion on some points.

I nearly played 100hours on KAG and i always saw that the class Archer deserve better. not a lot of people play archer and just few guys master the Archer, and i mostly think, it's because:
1: Archer are OS by knight
2: They can't OS knight and really hard to kill people with the archer (generally you kill 2-3 guys and you run out of ammo) but you earn a lot of money by killing so that's not really a big problem.
3: knight is way more attractive than the archer (bomb jump, KEG, rampage and abality to destroy a base alone)

- For my opinion, i just play the archer for fun (sometime to try to destroy ennemy's structure).
So the thing is to valorize the archer, but how I think we need to give him an objective,

-The archer as the possibily to be a strong support by giving him more arrows who help his teammates (like the water arrow) we could give him a arrow that have the effect of a flashbang or an arrow who can heal his teammates in a zone (exemple: the arrow heal all the ally's in a zone of 3blocks, amount of the heal = 2-3 hearts)

-He can also have the possibility to capture the flag or sneak in the ennemy base. with this situation we have some possibilty of equipments or abilities: a device who make the archer invisible for a short time also give him more resistance. or the ability of teleportation who can be obtain by buying a potion, ulisation: 2 , cost: 70. and for a reference the animation could be like a shadow jump (like in Dishonored).

-The last role that can has the archer is to destroy ennemy structures. I dont really like that one because we already have the KEG. but if we wanted the archer to have the possibilty to destroy structures, he need a 5th object who cost 120, like the KEG. that could be a bomb you stick to the wall (C4). need to standstill, 6second of placement, or we can gave him a big bow or a portable cannon, need to standstill, be at the ground, 8second to fire, can only fire in horizontal line, range: 3block of height and 10 block of width.

That's what i think we should do for the Archer, +Sometime when you make you're grapplin hook just on the edge of a structure, you dont climb the 1block to go on the top and just fall (sorry if you dont understand me, i am french and my english is not really good, sorry if i made faults ).

Now that that's done, I think the little graphic you made looks pretty neat. Really helps to underline what you want to have. Personally I think that any kinda hand cannon like that sounds kinda, well, OP I guess (in a way that you don't have anything to do but to point in just one general direction and just beam-zap everyone away), but I like the idea of having sticky bombs/mines. The teleportation and the flashbangs however don't really seem to fit to KAG imo.

 

yeah i understand the point on the flashbang and teleportation. the thing is when you talk about middle-ages there's warrior, archer, sword, castle, BLABLA.... but also wizzard and there's one in KAG and there's mod where the class mage is there. so why not associate the typical KAG with some touch of magic .
i think it would open a lot of possibilities and add some punch to the game. but that's true i really like how the game is at this point.
So the option would be to make gamemod where the magic and new stuff is used, and keep the good old stuff in the CTFgamemode for example.
and i aslo realise that's OP (the cannon) so i tried to give him a lot of disadvantage. but yeah still OP

The best way is to give the archers defensive capabilities if they can't avoid combat, especially if they die an extreme majority of the time.

 

hmm... ok but how can you give him some defense? i think the archer die a lot because he need to go in close-range fight to be at his maximum potential. Giving him defense will make that the archer just go even-more in close range fight, for my opinion maybe we need to buff his capacity of long range fighting.

-oh and Fuzzy, yeah me too. i would really like to see some sneaky capacity for the archer, but at the same time. KAG is a BIIIIIG battlefield so even if you're stealthy you can die by some bomb or other stupid stuff.

if people have some idea, i will be greatfull you help to findout how we can make the archer a more apprecieate class.

 

Love the pictures man! The changes seem interesting but a little extreme, might be better for a mod.

we just need to make it that archer can make his/herself 1 block insize so he can hide in walls and tiny tunnles and stuff and then you can have walls of archers XD

 

It would actually work well, since the archer already have the new extremely weird ability to shot one tile higher than where the bow is.

dis a real fucking good idea and I'm going to work on it eventually. Since this would make the archer so much like solid snake already I figure a good countermeasure to it would be for the archer to shout ( 'URGH.ogg' || 'METALGEAR.ogg' || 'OTACON.ogg') at random intervals while sneaking

"Learning to play" one of the weakest classes in the game doesn't make it any less weak for all players bro

I liked your image man but it sort of tips the scales over into OP. What really needs to happen is the Archer's base kit actually has to become useful. Builders are normally out of arrow range and Knights are impervious; what we need to look at is Archers being able to fight back against Knights without a Knight to help them.

 

Ugh, this has been covered in multiple threads. Archers shouldn't be able to 1v1 a knight, if you want to 1v1 a knight, play knight. Archers are meant for busting open buildings, stunning to support knights, setting things on fire, putting out fires. And why not?
Sure, a Knight should be able to beat an Archer every time on level ground, but if the Archer is up on defences, they should definitely be able to fight back the Knight. That's what's currently wrong with the Archer-they aren't threatening at all.
If you say "if you want to 1v1 a Knight, play Knight", then that makes an entire class of the game ineffective and therefore never picked, which is not a good situation!

 

if you think archer is ineffective i have a proposal for you:
-pick a team of 4 people+you
-you will play a match vs my team
-you can only use knights and builder, we can use archers too
-if we win, will you stop complaining?
