Hello there! Many of you are probably already aware of this game since it is on Desura. I am just making this thread in order to find out if anyone else here is as excited of this game as I.

    What is Xenonauts?
I think there's one certain paragraph from the this game's official homepag that explains the game quite perfectly.

"Xenonauts is a single-player PC strategy game. Primarily a strategy game, it straddles several sub-genres and so we’ve resorted to describing it as a ‘planetary defence simulator’. The player is in control of an organisation tasked with defending the planet against extraterrestrial invasion; establishing bases across the world that house the aircraft, scientists, technicians and soldiers that will be used to protect humanity. The skies must be defended against alien incursion, while ground teams must be sent into combat to capture crashed UFOs or cleanse terror sites to retain the confidence of funding nations and capture new extraterrestrial artefacts and technology to study. As the game goes on, the player researches the captured artefacts to unlock new units and battlefield technology to use in the fight against the aliens while slowly discovering their origins, eventually learning enough to defeat the alien invasion – assuming that they have not already been overrun!"

There you have it. All that you loved from the original X-com series and more! I for one is very happy over the developers descision of making the game like the old X-com series. Like many others I felt alienated when 2K decided to make their reboot of X-com into a first person shooter.

So man, can you imagine how happy I was when I found out about this game? It has the same isometric viewpoint as the old games, it is even tile-based. From what I know Xenonauts was announced as a direct follow-up on 2k's decision on making the next official X-com a fps.

There's an incredibly good video that gives you a great idea what the game is all about. It can be found here.

So what do you guys think? Usually I don't like it when newer games sticks to an old formula but in this case I have to give them my thumbs up. I am not arguing that 2k's new X-com is going to be bad, it might very good. However, it feels like they've slapped on that name just for marketing purposes, it has in my eyes nothing in common with the original series, so why not start something new? Xenonauts is according to the developers neither a remake or a clone, but rather "a re-imaging". Several improvments over the older games has been made and they've also added some new features to the game. Making it, from what we know, the best X-com game to date.

This could very well turn out to be one of the best games that I've played for a very long time when the full version comes out

If you buy the game now you will gain access to current builds. It is not a complete experience but it gives you a rough idea on what you will get when the game is finally released.
