Well Howard Hill killed a shark with a regular bow underwater

He's a boss archer. So yeah, however arrows are slower there obviously.

As a support class, they should not be able to advance across a channel by themselves without some kind of escort. I think removing their ability to fire when in water is perfectly legitimate. I'm sure this won't seem so harsh when boats come around, anyway.

It wouldn't hurt if the m2 dealt damage, though. It wouldn't even have to be anything major.

Interesting, but yeah it looks like Howard was very close, but the way they jerk the camera it's hard to tell.
If m2 did like 1/4 heart damage that wouldn't be bad no. Scripting may allow us to add similar functionality, maybe, who knows. It's been something people have wanted for a long time but it's also dangerous in it's own right to add.

I think it's too soon to tweak water mechanics. Boats and other siege engines will have a huge impact.

and they'll also be very optional on server to server basis, some will have movement vehicles enabled, some won't, there was a reason it should have been balanced in the first place, but it wasn't cause we never really got a chance to do much combat in testing, really hard to get together the people we have with enough to test it.

I'm tired of seeing this in the forums. This is opinion presented as a fact. The "About" page and the wiki present all three classes as distinct from one another. They each come with pros and cons. Furthermore, they can all support one another.

    From the About Page:
    Three customizable classes
The Builder, The Knight, The Archer

Examples of Individual Use from Wiki:
Knight: The primary skill of the Knight is to attack with his sword.
Archer: The Archer is a skilled warrior in ranged combat, using a bow to rain death from afar.
Builder: The Builder is the backbone of any army.

    Examples of Support from Wiki:
Knight: Being a melee warrior, the Knight is proficient in the use of a shield to protect himself and others from harm.
Builder: His primary task is to build the infrastructure necessary to protect and provide mobility to the army.
All 3 in reference to CTF:Generally the builder builds defenses around the tent and helps others to destroy or surpass enemy defenses. The knight is the front line soldier, preventing the enemy from breaching the knight's team defenses, while pressing onward towards the flag. The archer supports the knight by forcing the enemy to shield with arrows.

I'll leave this here, and make a new thread for it if anyone wishes to comment. SchnitzelKiller, I only reference you because you're the latest to say this. I mean no offense, this is just something beginning to permeate the KAG community that I feel needs to be addressed.

The first people to reference them as a support class were the devs AFAIK

    Here's my thoughts:

player classes are way too slow, swimming is like floating in a giant pool of molasses, not fast paced enough, and causes many stalemates

not enough breath for builders, it's hard as shit to build a pillar underwater, though this might be resolved with faster swimming speed.

    no boats, should be self-expanitory.

But that's about it, I think water combat is fine, but would be better if it was more fast-paced, because that's what kag is supposed to be.

just how much breath do archers get? Is their ridiculous lung capacity supposed to compensate for their low health or something?

Bomb surfing or skimming is hard to do if the player is on the blue team, and can be done easily on the red side. Another reason to do something about the current water combat imo.

Knight slashes easily outdistance quick arrows underwater. What are people angry about. I haven't beaten a knight underwater unless he was at one heart or less and I got the drop on him, seeing as he can kill me with one motorboat 7 foot distance slash. While my arrows travel 5 inches then sink like stones.

And any team that lets an enemy archer swim all the way across is either incompetent, or already on the ropes.

My main problem with water combat is that attacking via water is so worthless atm you end up with games where both sides stalemate over water and its 11v11 archer duels in skyscrapers. Bluigi hits it right on the head here, but I also agree with frog that:
Hold out a little longer guys.

Hopefully water will change a lot with boats and other siege engins, yeah for sure, but I still think these will have to be looked at, attacking from land to water, but yes, it can wait. I'll revisit this if boats and siege engines and such don't deliver.

Boats are looking pretty slow at the moment, I'm sure it's not finalised and maybe they'll take a fair bit of punishment but we'll see eh?

My problems with current water fighting.

-Knight's slash allows him to reach ridiculously far targets.
-To properly cross water you need some sort of an "oxygen refilling point" in the middle which is usually made with ladders. Its extremely easy to snipe builders when they try to build it - and its pretty much like tunels - they dont give advantage to red or blu,but instead just provide an opportunity to storm each other.
-It seems that archer cant do anything when underwater.
-Arrows do not skip ,but bombs do?!Unfair!I want to use mah mad reflecting skills!
