Is it really? Merry was one of the things he was very proud of. He was always the one who fixed it up and looked after it. Kaya gave him that ship, so it's also a memory of Kaya, and her gift. Plus he knows the significance of what merry has done, the adventures its taken them on and all that. The perfect time for him to get brave as he feels really threatened by luffy just wanting to scrap merry for a new ship.
I don't like the flashbacks usually. Especially since they often repeat the same ones over and over as if you've forgotten them when actually I really don't want to see it again.
They are necessary and the first time I watched them through and enjoyed them, but now I skip them. The worst thing is even if you're watching it through the first time you get repeated flashbacks and clips over and over throughout every episode. It drives me insane having to skip them all.
What's more they even lined filler up in the middle of this arc so I end up skipping 3 episodes in a row and the excessively long intro just to get to the meat of the story.
That's an understatement if anything. But yeah, my favorite part so far is the intrigue. These situations present meaty tough problems that I can't think a solution to. Seeing as beat the crap out of them doesn't work anymore.
Gah. I don't know anymore. I feel like the last island of the grand line is going to be a tourist island though. Seriously. What the hell is with all the people everywhere they go?!
