Yeah, I don't mind the book, but I have to say that pound for pound the film is better. Sure, some dislike its slower pacing, but the cinematic & score? They're nigh on unbeatable! :)

It has slower pacing?! Can't believe it's possible. The book spends so much time describing scenes, so the movie would be better for such imagery. But I was expecting you know, a good story :/

Oh, lol - I mean 'slower' relative to what people normally expect when they see a film, not as compared to the book! :p

You're right in that the film is a better medium that the book for the amount of imagery that's present. I like it, but I know a bunch of people who hated spending 2-3 minutes watching a spaceship land/dock. For me, it really was an opportunity to fully take in the scene and actually reflect upon my own responses to watching something take *as long as it should* - rather than being sped-up by Hollywood. :)

I like a plot, with good pacing. Hollywood rarely has good plots, tv series usually have slow pacing. I would have liked the story more if they stayed with the ancient humans and had a story about the clan taking over the world. But then I'm just a sucker for world domination stories.

I have not. It's hard to imagine a christian writing good scifi.

Lol! He's actually a Mormon, so a few (but important) differences there. Don't know if he's an *active* Mormon, through.

Also, if you want some good scifi be a Christian, try C.S.Lewis' Space trilogy* - they're pretty flaming good!

*there was a fourth manuscript found after his death too - and as far as it goes, it's bloody brill too! :D

I'll have to check them out one day, though I'm not a big reader. Only scifi book I've enjoyed so far (havent read many) was the Foundation series.

I suppose Brave New World could count as scifi too; considering the political implications of technology. Dealing with serious issues can substitute for a good story too.

Yeah, the Space trilogy deals with what humanity really is and how we respond to new technologies changing what we're capable of. It of necessity also deals with an intangible spiritual realm, but it doesn't turn into a frivilous fantasy - it keeps on dealing with gritty things, which is (Ifeel) one of the defining features of scifi: it deals with the *real* - the 'grit' of existance, as it were. :)
