Uuuuh as far as I can tell, this thread was supposed to be a conversation about the new update, and how it relates to archers. I don't care which way the conversation goes, I just feel like I'm being off-topic by making a post that doesn't fit in with where the conversation is actually going. Feel free to hate me; I know you already do. :C

Anyways... I had a block fall on my head as an archer, and I survived with half a heart. I've never survived a collapse before, I'm assuming that it's because of the new collapse physics. It felt good, man. ...not sure why I'm posting it, it's just the only archer-relevant thing I can think of in regards to the new update.

EDIT Wyeth: Okay, I think I need to make that clearer. Nothing changed about archer this build. This is not directly related to the new build, I post the log as a reference point in case things have changed/so people can look out for changes, but essentially this is exactly for that: general discussion about the archer class that does not warrant its own thread in your opinion. The build is only important in that way that discussions about an archer *this* build doesn't get mixed together with the archer *next* build (maybe than he has fire arrows and everything becomes totally different? Maybe we gonna have zombie mode and people will be talking about the archer in zombie mode rather than in multiplayer modes? I dunno).

In that same line of talk, I too survived a collapse... Completely unharmed! It was lol.

A big dead-fall of stone was broken loose to fall on me and some others of my team.

I figured I was dead so I just went prone (the archer can get pretty low) and everyone but me died!

I think it was a combination of my crouching, and my positioning near the end of the trap, with a 1 block high ledge that maybe the trap hit instead of me.

Anyways, I threw up some exclamation points and ran away to fight another day.

Crouching will absorb stomps completely. Meaning if a knight stomps on you while you crouch = no damage AT all. Maybe it works the same for falling blocks?

about the fire arrows and wood getting burned.
If the structure was fully made out of wood it will get completely destroyed so maybe instead of getting razed to the ground the fire would stop after 5 or little bit more blocks?

Like I said, it should only affect one stone block at a time, but I think it would make a lot of sense to affect a 3x3 area of wood should it strike wood. Incidentally, I'd like to see wooden walls make an appearance in a future update. Just cheap, 5 wood apiece walls that take a few hits and then crumble. Can only be built vertically and serve as little more than an annoyance to the enemy. Perhaps make them bomb proof? Anything can kill them except bombs, making them good for buffing stone walls... somehow...

Edit: Better yet, you can build a wooden wall, then strengthen it by adding another wall to the same tile, and again and again up to 4 times, which would be stronger than stone. (Though unlike stone, it could be burned down and would still be penetrable by knights. The difference is how much stronger VS enemy builders it would be. Instead of 7 hits for a stone wall, it would take them more like 12 for a fully upgraded wood wall.)

Geti wants wooden wall to be the first stage of the block, and it could be upgraded to stone later on. Knights would also be able to break wood. I think that'd work pretty well.

    Edit: Completely off-topic, sorry :(

I think fire arrows should only burn the block they hit, since they will be spammed all over the place. That will make archers much more useful aswell, even a bit funnier.
A block in fire could be, duh, how to say that, disfired by just simply repairing it :)

I think fire should spread to other blocks very slowly. This means an archer can potentially sneak by another unit and set fire to something before sneaking back. If the building is unguarded it can mean problems later on when you suddenly find a burnt down tower!

Me and Spitfire did a lot of collapse testing. Doesn't work.

I very much like the idea of wood walls being "basic" and stone walls being more or less "finished". I think that will force people to use wood and stone in more interesting and efficient ways.

I imagine things will be like, a single layer of stone blocks to stop from being a fire-hazard, with wooden blocks making up the internal structure. I'm not completely sure, but I think that such a structure would even be historically accurate.

For me, it only makes sense if fire spreads like fire does in the real world. It would make defending wooden structures more dynamic, and since I believe I have read about water being added as well, I am sure fighting fire won't be impossible.

    Water arrows for archers, maybe?

Heh I guess that would be a logical step forward from fire-arrows... But I think that fire-fighting should be limited to a class that can't start fires. Just my opinion though.

Just a nearby pond and some buckets, keep throwing water at it and it will go out. Maybe at the start of the round you'd have to dig out an area for your pond as well. Or naturally occurring lakes.

That could be an ability for builders to have, since they normally build/repair stuff, why not firefight too :p?

Which means no more leaving your op/cata's unguarded, I agree with you here.

This is going off-topic, but I'd imagine builders could distinguish the fire by just simply repairing the block, no? :)

I'd think there would be more of a process then that, because repairing a damaged block takes material, but I guess you could just make water a material and to repair flaming damaged blocks you'd need the material required to repair it, aswell as some water on you.

I would like to see archers lose the oscilating charge to their bows. Up and down, up and down. It takes a LOT of practice to get good with archers. You have to regulate distance, speed and power of the shot, and also trajectory. I think letting it charge up to full, then STAYING there (make it a toggleable option if lots of people till like the oscilating power) would make the archer class a lot more usable.

Alternatively, show a red line that shows exactly where the arrow will land, again as a toggleable noob feature. Just something so you don't have to tediously practive for 5 hours straight just to get to a decent level for the archer to be useable =/

    I agree with this.
But not the other thing, if you want to be an archer, learn to aim properly, many people would get dependent on the red line feature.

I think the archer charge should have the current charge speed, but instead of slowly starting to decrease it should just disappear completely. And with the cost of that, it could have a longer maximum charge time, say 3 seconds.

By the way, we once had a build where archer's max charge stayed forever, and it led to big stalemates between archers in cover. It is a huge no for my part.

Yeah I like that idea. Currently you only have a split second to fire that arrow, and it's not very noob friendly. There's also a huge difference between a 9/10 charge and a full charge. A HUGE difference.

Not to be hatin' but with isn't Magicka. :p

    Maybe water ballon arrows. :p

And I agree on the archer thing with staying charged, not , thing...... I don't think once you charge it up it should stay like that. It should just stay the way it is in the version it is now.
