    From what I've been told but I did not pay attention to community at all back then (literally at all, I had 0 posts on the forum ;) ) it was just mostly a 'thing', and Neat made it into actual bomb jumping by suggesting that it can be controlled more. In other words it wasn't necessarily a feature it developed into one by community and developer effort together.
