    For those that haven't realized yet. If you click on the candy merchant's hat a couple of times, he'll give you some candy. Only 100, but its a little boost when starting up.

    Flame or summoning. Flame is better on individuals, summoning is better on groups. As its the individuals I struggle with the most, flame is better, IMO.

    unnamed had the summoning sword, struggled on the stairs for a couple of days.

    then he chose the fire one in a new game and beat the stairs easily

    Summoning sucks dick. Your monsters hold you back, while it lack decent damage, which makes passing through the castle entrance almost impossible. Also, since you can only summon things when you kill an enemy, it sucks against single strong enemies like a dragon. Life is kinda pointless when facing hard quests since you have a invulnerability potion on all the time.
    Fire is the way to go. Life is meh. And I would rather face the quests with a lolipop then use a summoning sword.

    Imp scrolls or Summoning is pretty much needed if you don't want to waste lots of time on hell or stair's, I refuse to believe summoning gave him issues on stairs, as imps can't be stomped by anything but necros.

    Flame is better in most cases but like BL says summoning is better in hell and other places where you have to face many weaker enemies.

    Both are shit compared to the random sword anyway to be honest, they're about even in how many levels each one is favored on til you can get the sword of random.

    The only reason I use the Sword of Life is just so that in the earlier levels like Underwater Cave and the Castle things I don't spend that much time waiting inbetween quests because the SoL allows me to stay near max HP.
