I'd say to let them do whatever the fuck they want with their game.
    But that's just me.

So many people liked doing this, and then it ended when one of the sides got greifed hard, they auto lost, was very frustrating, I love you guys for fixing skybridges.

Ever heard of the word "feedback"? You should look it up, it's pretty awesome.

Anyway, I am just dreaming in my head, having a boat float across the enemies shores with two builders, a handful of knights some archers, of it will be spectacular.

People talk about the boats, as well boats, I think it would be more appropriate to have a raft. Think about the possibilities. You could send a decoy raft before you attack, but the decoy raft would have a keg on it, just a little surprise, but talking ij that sense the raft would need cover, not as in defense nut as in a flag or sail would cover some of the boat.

I am so glad for this update, overworld doesn't really bother me anymore, think about this whole new layer of combat, you could, with the improved shield bashing drown someone if they don't get to safety. You could have massive boat wars once they are implemented, I look forward to it.

Imagine if boats would be a detached, moving entity made up of individual blocks (sort of like that mod for minecraft which turns a group of blocks into a boat). Like you create your boat workshop or port or whatever on the water, and then go into building mode, and you build your boat however you like. So, each boat would be different, it could range from a 3 block raft with no propulsion, to a gigantic warship with multiple decks and shops. and since it would be made of individual blocks, they could be damaged and repaired as if they were static, by catapults/bombs/saboteur builders. If the surface area in contact with the water becomes somehow inadequate in relation to the number/weight of blocks in the ship (through either being damaged or poorly designed) it could sink.

I doubt this would be possible though. I'm just fantasizing here.

Is there any possibility of water becoming blocks instead of a layer? I would much enjoy making a waterfall.

    No.

That would require months of coding to get it to work in single player, and the server for multiplayer would still probably shit itself at the end of all that, they do not have time to work that out.

Think about it, the server currently shits itself with big collapses and it crashes at about 50 players, how do you think it would be with blocks that have complex flow calcuations, combined with those collapses AND 40 players running around all at the same time?

The water is actually realistic in a way.The layer represents the maps water table like in real life if you dig deep enough you reach water.

Well sort of, your not always gonna hit a massive underwater river/lake if you dig really deep, might hit some bits that are a bit damp now and again but nevermind, as cool as it would be for it to be more dynamic doesn't seem like it can happen. Anyway, if they don't have time to sort that out in a way that means it's not gonna steal all their time and cause a shit load of lag, you can always just lower the water level or make a hillier map, so you can still mine and tunnel a little in certain sections.

Please no, I still have shivers when I think about the lag that happened when water was being moved in Terraria.

You better be joking right? I have older computer like 6-7 years old and water in Terraria did not lag for me or anything, I don't know what ancient machine you have.

Lostpix: ever tried making a tidal wave? All of the vids I've seen of that either have the water going super duper slowly or desyncing and flying off in strange lines. We dont want to spend months and months coding and debugging that sort of thing when we can just have a water level and get the benefits lake defence, diving to lay bridge foundations and a natural barrier that requires builders to cross it (rather than something artificial like a build timer).

@ilaks: I appreciate it fwiw. "Who reads those essays" equates to me, at this point. I could use more posts with dot-points :) I agree with most of your points, though the HUD conversion is not in any way complete. I'm happy with the water as a level fwiw, it allows a lot of game mechanics that don't work with "dynamic" water - rising water as a sudden death variable, and the aforementioned "natural" build time barrier, for example. I've had a lot of fun with it in the past weeks.

Searched this thread but couldn't really find any info on it, so I will ask again. All this doesn't mean that the new classes and overworld will never be implemented right? Just that it will be much later after the official release? I mean you are not just going to stick to bugfixing only from the release onwards right?

Additions from time to time would be really great you see :)

Anyway, still love this game and I respect the decision :)

We likely won't continue to add much to the content and mechanics side of things once it is done, we don't _want_ to be making a single game for 5 years or whatever. That is why we don't want to rule out the possibility of a successor at some point down the line.

Overworld will not be implemented in King Arthur's Gold. That much should be 100% clear. Of new classes - it depends if we have the time to make them or not, though they should be do-able with the scripting interface - that's what we're hoping.

Just referring to what Boiiw said, an I am pretty sure those classes were not related to overworld in anyway, overworld was an old idea that hasn't been touched on till now since the dev-blog. (excluding the guys in the premium forum)
It is amazing how much everyone cares for something when it is gone, nobody has really said much towards overworld in a really long time.

I think the classes were referring upwards the premium servers, the free to play is enjoyable, but even now you become engrossed in a good (modded) premium server.

From what I have been reading I don't think all of the classes will be implemented, because like Geti said he and the dev team, want to cut out all the fat and eat at the nice juicy bits.
    That's a different story though.

Personally I can't wait till we start seeing some more premium mechanics, like water to grow the premium servers popularity because at the moment the only good premium server, and really the only premium server is the MOLE's server.

(I also had a little go at the test build today, it was fun experimenting with supports, water and all that crazy stuff, I een stumbled along a few bugs)
