They do know, their low lvl wizard gear looks pretty sweet. I won't judge the game from this though or the rest of the armor. For all I know the rest of the armor could be pretty sick, but that picture of the armor I linked from the diablo fans site has decepticon written all over the barbarian and witch doctor, with a little bit of WoW Lich King in the barbarian.

Looking forward to this game, pre-ordered it before the price got up (woo!). My first character is going to be a monk.

RMAH is going to be player-driven, that means if someone buys the "best", he is actually paying someone who found this gear. There is something people forget, you still need to reach a certain level before you can actually use the latest and "best" gear, which probably isn't even the strongest and the best, due to the fact that dropped loot is randomnized. That said, you can also always spend time to get such loot, it's not needed for you to get it. And like someone said in a previous post, PvP is going to have a match-making system which makes sure that fights are equal, gear and skill based.

Other cool stuff I'm looking forward to is the fact that everything is randomnized, the items, the dungeons, the bosses etc. Nothing will ever be 100% the same. This is a big plus for replayability, even though I can't give my final statement about it just yet, since I need to play the game myself for that of course.

Also, the "Always have internet", is not a very big issue. It does not give you extra lag and you can play with < 300 MS with minimal problems. Possibly above it too, not sure about that. All it is that you can't play when you don't have internet. I have to say that's very rare for me atleast.

That's why the new system is not totally bad, the only bad thing is Blizzard finded another thing to have money after buying this game..
I hate to do others payments after already buy a game, like expensions, subscriptions and others.

Actually, if you look at it from a developers point of view, why wouldn't you try to make some money out of expansions? You put in alot of work to continue the story of a game to get nothing out of it? There is no reason then, blizzard will almost guaranteed have features that will require you to pay for, such as name changes but there won't be a cash shop or anything like that. It's just not how they roll. Subscriptions is understandable why you wouldn't want to pay for. It makes some people feel like they're obligated to play and some just don't like that.

If you're worried about money, than really you should probably spend your free time making money instead of using it to buy games to play. The problem though is when a game is bad and people still put out for it, so that developers don't fix the problems in a timely manner.

If you look at it from a survivor's perspective, why wouldn't try to make some money out of selling air? You put in alot of work to continue to not breathe all of it only to get nothing out of it? There is no reason than, you will almost guaranteed have features that will require you to pay for such as, breathing but there won't be a Helium shop or anything like that. It's just not how they roll. Monthly Air Payments is understandable why you wouldn't want to pay for. IT makes some people feel like they're obligated to breathe and some just don't like that.

If you're worried about money, than really you should spend your free time making money instead of using it to buy air to breathe. The problem though is when air is bad and people still put out for it, so that the survivor's don't fix the problems in a timely manner.

Hahaha, I see what you did there. Not sure if you think what I said was stupid or just trolling or both.
If you're serious though, air is a necessity, gaming isn't.

I agree with you, Jaedong

Companies spend money on developing a game and they want to earn that money back and of course make some extra money too.

There are various ways to do so. A popular one is to put a price one-time payment on the game itself. This is very useful for singleplayer games and multiplayer games where there is no active connection needed 24/7. Diablo 3 does need such connection, since everything is synced to make everything fair for everyone, so they chose to make an auction house where you can EARN money yourself for trading items, they just take a little off that amount for themselves, which will undoubtly be used to make more great games and to maintain the servers for diablo 3, if needed.

Yes, you can say whether or not such 24/7 sync system was needed or not. In my opinion it's a great system because it makes the game fair for everyone and the cheaters can make their own private server so we won't have to deal with them.

I think the decision they made was the best one, which is a one time payment and an OPTIONAL RMAH auction which you can use to buy items ( lose money ) and to sell items ( earn money ).

They might as well have gone the whole "micro-transaction" way of games, or a monthly fee for that matter.

Also, who doesn't have internet nowadays? Let's be honest here, you can get wifi almost anywhere if you intended to play it outside of your home.

I feel like 99% of the reason it was made to be 100% online is because it is easier for them to maintain the cheating and the RMAH probably plays a big role in it too.

Also if someone wants to play it offline they can and most likely will pirate an offline version of the game. I've heard some arguments about people who say they shouldn't be forced to play online or have to pirate the game to play it offline, but I think that's just silly.

Having to connect to the internet can mean a lot of things that a lot of people are not okay with not to mention that just beacuse something is 'often the norm' doesn't mean that you adopt it because you want no one to pirate your game, many a time I play games like Diablo when I have no internet for various reasons, with such things as no single player for this type of game it's not even a question anymore.

Also Path of Exile is way better than D3, why anyone would buy D3 after this free beta weekend is beyond me, I've played both and D3 is shit compared.

I'm gonna try Path of Exile now, but looking at the videos, i'm not really impressed.

Edit 2: All the stuff about the interface looking ugly, I didn't really do any digging into the game and found a more recent video online, the interface looks much better. I guess I will download the game after all and play it, as I probably shouldn't be making judgement until I have played the game for a good while.

Edit: I watch a youtube video of it, and I gotta say, I don't know what you see in this game. I ended up canceling the DL cause, I didn't really feel like DLing so I probably wouldn't be able to make as good of a judgement basing my judgement off a youtube video.
What i've noticed about alot of people who played D2 and D1 is that alot of them are complaining about the influence wow has over the game. I'll admit It does look a little bit cartoonier and much more colorful and less realistic. I personally think Diablo 3 looks great, plays well, the spell effects are very nice. The monsters in Diablo 3 have some pretty cool affixes to them. The UI of Diablo 3 is just fantastic. One thing to note here, is that i'm not a fan boy or anything, but I have been looking forward to this game for a long long time now. I went to blizzcon and got to try out a lvl 60 Wizard and Demon hunter in the PvP arena. It was sooooooo fun.

Path of Exile has an extremely ugly looking user interface that looks pretty standard for a hack and slash, nothing standing out. The monsters in the game didn't really do anything cool, they just walked to you really slowly for you to get hit, but thats low lvl I guess. One thing that stood out though was that the graphics in this game had a more realistic feel to it than Diablo 3, the graphics looks a little more intense than diablo 3. D3's graphics is ok, but it's definitely more vibrant than this game. Watching some videos of D2 you could say Path of Exile looks more like what a Diablo 3 could be if it was more serious. A few things I didn't really like about path of exile though were the clunky animations of casting spells and the stiffness of the monsters.

Also Path of Exile is way better than D3, why anyone would buy D3 after this free beta weekend is beyond me, I've played both and D3 is shit compared."
If anything people are gonna play this while they wait for D3.
The source of my judgement.

D3 looks cartoony to the point that I couldn't play it, it was absolute poop shit really.
The graphics and general theme of the game are much better than D3, much better. D3 is way too WoW-y and WoW is the epitome of shit in gaming right next to fucking CoD babbyshit FPS gaming.

D2 is basically D3 made modern. If you didn't really try it though to get to the point of finishing at least Act I then you probably can't say much as most of these new systems which make it so great you have to experience, a Let's Play is perhaps the worst thing to ever quote, most LPs are shit (read: 100% of them are), they don't get the proper gaming experience through at all. Watching an LP is like having someone explain a movie to you over the phone.

D3 has it's own place, mostly to keep the casual peasants of WoW appeased, but to anyone who actually cares about games, feh.

Source of my thoughts: Played both, thoroughly.

Well to make it no go as offtopic as it's going now, I would just say both games have their own strengths ( Such as the big skill tree for Path of Exile )

Well it's obvious that some won't like the game, I just think some of the reasons given to dislike it aren't the best that you can give. But everyone has their own tastes so I'll accept that

Edit: I originally color sorted my points to yours, but I figured the color would have been too cartoony for you and you might not have read my post, so I changed it back to black.

This is a very childish explanation of why you don't like diablo 3. Basically you hate the game because the graphics are colorful and that makes it cartoony apparently. I don't think the graphics are better, I retract my statement from my previous post. Both games do different things with their art. What exactly is the theme of both games, and what makes path of exile better than diablo 3?

" Watching an LP is like having someone explain a movie to you over the phone."
That's a bad analogy, When you watch a LP, you get to see gameplay with commentary, how the hell is that like watching a movie over the phone, if anything it's like watching a movie with commentary which would be annoying lol but in this case more helpful if anything.

"If you didn't really try it though to get to the point of finishing at least Act I then you probably can't say much as most of these new systems which make it so great you have to experience"
I don't think you have a right to tell me anything about finishing Act I of this game, as you are bashing on Diablo 3 for it looking "cartoony",Especially since your opinions of Diablo 3 come from 1/3rd of Act I of Normal difficulty. You're saying that these new systems which make the game great you have to experience, yet you hate Diablo 3 when you aren't even allowed to finish even half of Act I.

--- merged: Apr 1, 2012 11:29 AM ---

I won't go as far to say that it is more cartoony but less realistic looking than Path of Exile. The art style of Diablo 3 might not be for everyone, but I can garuntee that it will be more successful than your Path of Exile. I played That game for a good 40 minutes, which btw is around how long it takes to complete the Diablo 3 beta. I don't really see whats so great about path of exile. I mean I can see that you obviously like the Art Style for the game but other than that, whats so special about the game? Diablo 3 uses a vibrant art style that really makes the game seem alive, while Path of Exile uses less color with a more serious tone. I didn't really like how the floor was all glossy and the rocks were glossy. The monsters in the game didn't really stand out. Monsters in diablo 3 come out of the ground and walls, they respawn more monsters, and there's paths blocked by quest that you have to do with voice acting. Path of Exile lets you run through alot of the act without killing any of the monsters, which are also bland. All the monsters just ran at me and hit me while I potted up and auto attacked. It was really boring. There was only like two monsters that did anything different, but they were bosses so they don't really count. The skill system in this game is weird. They call it skill points when its really attributes that you're getting most of the time with some skills in it after you've invested an ass load of skill points into that path to get the skill. You can also get skills from gem sockets?

I wouldn't say that "WoW is the epitome of shit in gaming". It's weird because I see alot of people bash on WoW but it does have the most subscribers by like 10x than any other MMO. I would play WoW but it's a little dated. I'm not a fan boy, and I never really got into WoW, but compared to any other MMO that is like it, I gotta say that it's probably the best.

Diablo 3 is too keep the casual peasants of WoW appeased? You're funny...
"
So essentially the Beta is only 1/48th of the entire game, not to mention the easiest part of the entire game. You can walk by monsters in the Beta and they barely even try to attack you and when they do actually hit you their attacks barely do any damage. Once you get to Hell and Inferno, the monsters will aggressively hunt you and do massive amounts of damage."(Source)

One more thing, I don't think it's fair to say you've played both games throughly. You don't really get a chance to play much of diablo 3 as you'd like. The beta is extremely extremely short. I'm not sure about how much of the content you get in path of exile, but I can guarantee it's significantly more.

I have to stop wasting my time writing up essays on the forums -_____-

I will preface this by saying that I have not actually played Diablo III yet, so I am basing this solely on what I have heard via word of mouth, screenshots and other discussion correlating to this game.

I doubt that Diablo III will ever live up to Diablo II for me. Probably partially because of the nostalgia factor, but also because Diablo III seems to let go of some of the better components of what makes Diablo II a truly excellent game. The atmosphere in Diablo II is dark and gritty. The whole world feels hostile and nasty. It's a shining example of a dark fantasy setting done exceptionally well (another example that comes to mind is Dark Souls/Demon Souls).

It probably has a lot to do with art direction when it comes down to it. Diablo III looks kinda of cartoony, which is in no way an inherently bad thing (some of my favourite games of all time are cell-shaded or otherwise cartoonesque) it just doesn't seem to fit what Diablo has always been about. I am not suggesting that every game that comes out be grimdark, edgy teen angst bullshit, I simply think that Diablo III should be a dark game, and the art direction does not really reflect that for me. I suppose it is a matter of opinion though, and trying new things can be great, especially in such a fluid industry as gaming. It's hit or miss though, and for me the design in Diablo III is a miss.

There has also been discussion of the simplification of the game mechanics in Diablo III, specifically the level up system and the weapon system. This is probably due to games in general becoming simpler and simpler as time goes on, at least from what I have noticed. Many developers palm this off as "appealing to a wider audience", which essentially boils down to the gaming industry becoming less about the gaming and more about the industry, with assholes like Bobby Kotick wanting to line their already ludicrously full wallets. The whole pay to win thing that the game seems to have going is a real dealbreaker for me too. In an age of on-disc DLC and microtransactions, it is commonplace for this sort of thing to happen. You're paying hundreds of dollars for the full game (although blizzard has been doing this for years via "expansions", so it's nothing particularly new and noteworthy for them, only the extent to which they are fleecing people for their cash has changed).

I don't see myself purchasing this game. Maybe in a year or so when it's pretty cheap, but I'm certainly not paying full price for it.

I agree with your 1st and second paragraph about Diablo 3. It really is a thing about preference. Personally though, I think it looks great. I wouldn't call the game cartoony looking though, just extremely vibrant. The colors in this game really pop out. There are some quick fixes that you can do yourself to make the game have a darker tone such as manually changing the settings in your graphics card driver menu or possibly even your monitor.

The game isn't pay to win though, as mentioned earlier people who buy top tier items for Diablo 3 will be matched up with others with equivilent items as theirs. If

If you're not actually playing it you're not getting an accurate feeling of gameplay. The point is gaming as a media revolves mostly and distinguishes itself as by it's interactivity and the fact that it needs to be 'played' (needs input), you are simply watching another user giving input so you do not feel how it plays, you miss most of what actually makes a game, a game.
:shad:
While you could get a semblance of what a game is like by watching videos or LP's or whatever that doesn't really tell you as much as you PLAYING the game.
:shad:
I'd be able to play more of D3 if they released more, but I played what was available, oh well.
You can get an idea of graphics and if that is good or not by videos but gameplay and systems you typically have to play to get entirely well and actually be immersed.
:shad:
Again, players does not a good game make. MMOs are delicate and by a lot of the things that WoW brought to the scene hurt it, a lot. WoW is also a pretty shitty game, set some pretty shitty standards, and brought a lot of fucking retards into the game by making it retard-friendly. Bad gameplay, bad bosses, bad pvp, bad community, nothing good about it, and D3 is basically World of Diablocraft graphically.

The problem of me not being able to play as much of D3 as I'd like is a problem out of my hands, a problem that if anything proves my point stronger, it's sad that people preorder shit like this with barely being able to play it, it really is.

In either way there are opinions and some people will choose one, some the others, but the ones that choose D3 are wrong of course.

Most people don't actually test betas and they are almost always as of recently a publicity stunt to get people in early, cause people always want to get in on something that seems 'private'.

That said while bug reports do happen most people use it as a way to see what the game will be like or such, this is true of most betas.
