At least part of it was inspired by River City Ransom, it looked pretty cool.

EA has been doing this for a while, and they aren't the only publisher to do this.

First day DLC is stupid, it should be in the game.
I hate DLC when it is like 3 extra guns and a new map, for $49.99.
DLC should be like a whole new game, or for free with many new features(EVE Online).

There does actually many exist legitimate reasons for first-day DLC. Try not to display too much ignorance. :)

in my opinion there's nothing wrong with DLC as long as the normal game is a full game and DLC are additions
if the 'normal' game is just a small thing and to make the game complete you need to buy DLC, it's ridiculous

Please provide one good use of day 1 DLC where something is already completed but for some reason should not be covered in the already high initial cost of the game?

Well there is free Day 1 DLC, and it isn't included in the game because the developers work on it after completing and sending the game to certification then having it printed and shipped. They can use that time to work on downloadable content. Do I agree with Day 1 DLC? No, I don't like it, but it isn't always something ripped out of the main game.

Which raises a question, is free 'DLC' DLC? Much like Action Adventure and RPG have changed to certain roles, DLC pretty much always means 'something you purchase extra', as opposed to 'extra content' 'more levels', patch, etc. Probably because DLC is the equal of IAP in most ways.

So I guess the main question is what is DLC exactly? Is a character DLC? What if he's cosmetic only (ala Tomb Raider recently), weapons? outfits? Levels? Areas? Entire new subplots or main plots?

I've never honestly seen a case of good 'free DLC' that's day 0, because most of it would be on disc, and thus if it was free is not DLC it's just part of the game.

Not only to make more cash, but to supply the consumer with new content which will hopefully get them back into the game. 2-3 months is more then enough time to complete a game, so if you love the game, but have done everything there is to do DLC is a perfect thing that benefits the consumer, and the game devs.

However skyrim has stolen my faith in DLc, since it was horrible.

Do you mean goals that give everyone more of the game? That's not really DLC.

Wait day 1 kickstarter DLC? I have never seen a kickstarter that offers access to day one dlc. Most offers on kickstarter is the game and certain VIP things. Like with starbound, each tier came with something unique and cool which differs from shitty day one dlc like oblivions horse armour. You could get a statue of yourself made from a photo of yourself, a weapon that you designed and they put into the game, You would be listed in the credits etc. and the more people bought it the more stuff the team was able to add due to having enough cash to do so. each milestone gave them the ability to create more things before the game came out. Kickstarter offers are far different from dlc.

    Those are incentives.

    DLC = Each person pays.

Kickstarter milestones don't have each person pay, usually they have real life shit, not actual DLC.

Season pack isn't DLC though, it's temporary access to DLC, which is arguably even fucking worse.

You have the definition of a Season Pass completely wrong. It's a one time purchase that gives you access to (usually) all DLC when it's released, cheaper than getting all DLC separately.

Also, that's a pretty good video. Gives a lot of information that people might not know.
