A couple of months back ago I would've said strategy- it is still a genre that floats well for me. But when I think about it, there aren't really that many games in this category that I am truthfully interested in, serious competition that can be seen in games such as SC2, or maybe even the upcoming CoH2, is something I enjoy watching, I rather not partake in the stoompin'

No, the strategy games I enjoy are the ones I can play on my own, to chillax with. With that in mind we suddenly have a handful to choose from. The only strategy game that I'm explicitly excited about is Rome 2, because frack, that looks like it will be an ungodly good game.

So with that I say- my favourite genre as of now would most certainly be platformers in all shapes and forms. There are a bunch coming out as well, especially from the indie scene, funded by Kickstarters.

To name a few: Shovel Knight, Treasure Adventure World, Volgarr the Viking, Apotheon, Tiny Barbarian DX.

Let's not forget the games with platforming elements but isn't one in its own right, like for example KAG, Terraria and the upcoming Starbound.
