I think I know what's going on. when aiming, the angle is determined from the player's center point, but the arrow ACTUALLY fires from slightly above that.

This isn't really a major thing when you aim your cursor far away from yourself, but it gets worse and worse the closer you get, and is especially bad at the diagonals.

So THAT's why my accuracy decreases as enemies get closer!

Any tips on how to get around that and not suck at hitting people at point-blank?

You'd just basically aim lower the closer you are to yourself if you happen to prefer "selecting" a target with your mouse. I personally never have it all that close to me as an archer; I just have the arrow pretty close to the edges of the screen so it's sort of becomes a non-issue then. You do still have to aim a bit lower anyways (if they are on flat ground) but generally you are more accurate then. I guess it's really about getting a feel for where your arrows go regardless of range, which is something you've kind of have had to do as an archer since classic anyways. Lag will still screw you over though cause both the arrow itself, you and the person are both affected by lag meaning the arrow will "hit" them but they won't take damage and they can still slash you (which is honestly the hardest part of playing cqc archer, at least to me).

The thing I've been doing is just always aim at the same distance.
What I mean is, put your cursor halfway between you and the edge of the screen and don't move it closer or farther away. The aim will still be off, but it'll be consistent, so you can get used to it.
Only problem is when you have to rapidly change direction to get someone sneaking up behind you. In that case, aim at their feet.
And remember that straight up and down is always accurate, consider jumping on/over people more.

I think it may actually be resolution dependant, but I'll have to look into it when I'm back from NZ
