Blockade Runner is blockbased, will include programmable computers . There will be limited energy, and there would need to be generators , I find the two ideas very, very similar.

Oh, I'm not suggesting they don't have similar content, but that's not what makes a game.
Have a read through how the respective developers talk about their games, and I think you'll find that these will end up on quite opposite ends of the spectrum! :)
For example, these two statements found on the respective websites:

Note: if you're thinking that Notch's "fun gameplay" statement is just trying to say that hard science fiction is boring, maybe now's the time to have a look at what Jonathan Blow has to say about it.

Regardless, I already own Blockade Runner, and will most probably be getting 0x10C as soon as it becomes available. :)

Would I go to jail/get sued if I combine the two games?

    No.
You'd just be copying a copy.

Honestly having spent much more time on minecraft recently I can say without a doubt that it has been saved by modding, however the modding probably needs a little more oomph from modders.

Notch sucks shit at making a good game, but at the very least he made a good base for modding, I can't agree with the current price or anything and I hope his current game doesn't try for a price that high cause seriously, but it's good as a base.

Well I, for one, am kinda excited about it. I mean it seems kind of redundant (a programmable computer within a computer game), but I'm willing to bet that they're going to try to make it at least a bit more user friendly so that people like me, who are stuck thumbing through Java for Dummies, will have a chance to exploit it.
And I'm sure they'll flesh it out more than just another resource collection game. And improve the combat.
Hey there's an upside. Combat can't get much worse.

How is it redundant? It's the part that makes it all interesting. It's a feature I've never seen before (outside of Dwarf Fortress or in traditional games [Read that one, it's a corker]) and theoretically gives rise to many interesting scenarios.

    o.O :D ^_______________^
Gives a whole new meaning to the idea of DNA computing! :P

And yes, the possibilities that the DCPU-16 brings do indeed set my mind on fire! :D

Holy shit /tg/ is god tier.

Also modding games to try and make logic gates isn't that hard as seen in DF and is also not so uncommon.
The abilities present however in DCPU-16 however are indeed probably going to be god tier, and yeah it isn't redundant because it is allowing you a legitimate ability to use a computer inside the game and program for it.

    It's so meta.

    Meta.
Is it just me, or did BL here just sound optimistic? :P
Also yeah, it's amazing what you can push into a game with a little modding, and as logic is kinda intrinsic to the whole "program" thing, it actually ranks fairly low on the difficulty meter. That said, as much as making games do more shit is awesome, modding is generally a chore when it comes to the actual implementation, and therefore any game which allows for mod-level changes without the need for mods gets a gold star in my book. ;)

I am optimistic about the game, as I am of most indie games, however I am well aware of how indie developers can be, so I am very cautious in my optimism.

I'm really hoping that the ingame stuff is very open ended but also that the game doesn't revolve solely around the computer aspect as that could be dry and end up like Minecraft where the building was pretty solid but the attacking was really lackluster... hopefully that can be fixed but right now it leaves with people who really like it and want to mod being able to do a lot on the creative side, but very little creatively with attacking and fighting. If that was strongly moddable and we could see something like Mount & Blade fighting in Minecraft with modded items out the butt I could see some very very fun custom stuff coming up.

If he's learned from how much modding can save a game I hope he will take that ethos and move forward doing so, he could really save indie gaming to some extent if he did, he might have a pretty bad fanbase but there are also a lot of really good people betting on some good stuff coming out.

That said, we can sign up for the alpha right, but it's a monthly cost?

I only mean redundant as in a computer, within a computer. And I mean that more in an I'm-easily-amused way then a that's-a-stupid-idea way. If fact, I think its a fantastic idea and I'm pumped for the Alpha, whenever that comes out.

I think you can sign up for Alpha single player for free, but if you want to play in the 'multiverse' (read multiplayer) you have to pay a monthly fee. Got me how much that'll be.

    Oh and undead computers? Nerdgasm.

That's not redundant because the second time you say the word is actually important, it might be recursive, but not redundant.

I think I'll mess with the alpha just to see if it ends up good.
