Not necessarily. A lot of people would love to be part of a nation or faction, even if it means being a soldier in service to a King. There are a lot of people who actually enjoy following. Then there are people who enjoy leading. And yeah if I were to become a King, I would order a massive city to be built... and I wouldn't want it to look retarded and not realistically make sense. Yeah I'm talking about those towers with stone walkways that stretch all the way across the map without any support lol

What people will come to find is that the only true strength they will have will lie in numbers, making loners easy prey (as badass as they think they will be lol)

 

How about bombs? I hear you eat those quite well :3

I thought MM said you had to sort of climb your way up the anarchy to become a king/queen? or maybe it was you start basically a clan and thats how you become royalty.

 

I really hope it is like this. But if you can gather followers for your cause by recruiting people, then yeah that should work. I could see clans just going into it all together, but I can tell you now that I plan on making a truly dedicated rolepalying server. No metagaming, powergaming, etc. You'll live life as you would in the world of KAG. All of your actions must be backed up by an in character reason, nations and kings will conduct diplomacy, and it will be a completely story driven server. So people joining looking for some mindless deathmatch fun will be met with the boot right out the way they came in. They can take that back to CTF.

 

i would love to be a part of a server like this i wouldn't mind owning a nice little farm in a nice town (of course i would be the town serial killer but thats off topic)

 

Well, if you're thinking a world with limited size, clans/nations would naturally own specific pieces of land.
I doubt a bigger nation would permit a random clan to declare themselves royalty in their territory.
Of course they could use some kind of vassal system to make organizing etc. easier.

 

As far as I know, I think this is how I think it will work.

You create your own Kingdom and you naturally "own" land by simply occupying it. I'm pretty sure there will not be actually owning a piece of land. Everyone owns all the land. To become "royalty" is decided by your own clan. You will not be limited to one nation. You either join someone else's Kingdom or start your own. Whether you will survive or not is decided by your own actions.

This isn't a generic MMO where you are restricted to one clan and have to work your way up. I think you are taking this th wrong way. I hope this helped you out.

As I said earlier in this post, I don't think any faction will actually "own" land. You take what you want and you defend it. If you bight off more than you can chew, sucks for you. In other words, if you "claim" more territory than you can defend, someone will simply take it away from you.

Sweet, you're in. And yeah, a lot of people will enjoy roleplaying like that, which is good. The problem I find with every game is everyone wants to be the most badass mofo hero or villain and they want it to be all about them. I would be fine just being a simple tavern owner lol
But yeah my friend wants to be a cities priest and have a torture dungeon beneath his church xD

That's how I meant it actually.
If some random nation would appear in a bigger nations "area" it would be up to them how to deal with it.
Just saying that not every clan should become royalty or a nation by itself but, as you said, would have to work forwards to it or use a whole different system (mercenarys/trade caravan etc.).

They'll simply have to deal with the fact that they aren't.
A tavern sounds nice too, actually.
And some risky stuff like building a torture chamber would get you an execution/ some kind of witch hunt for sure, so better tell him to be a little more secretive about it. :P

Oh god I wish it were that simple. But yeah, hopefully with the one life, permanent death system, players like that are going to get a sudden realization that if they want to play for long, that is not how it's going to work.
And if I happened to be a King, who is to say I couldn't rule my subjects with fear? I'd order various execution stations be built, and trust me, with only one life to every player, that fear will go a long way. Forced loyalty...

OH and also, slavery. And a Colosseum. This is happening under my rule lol

 

What I am trying to say is royalty, in my opinion, is only judged within the faction ranks. A small kingdom can still hae their own royalty even though a kingdom 10x bigger than them can still have their own royalty.

I feel like you are saying that, in order to have royalty within your clan, that clan has to have a certain level of power or a certain status. This, I do not believe.

That's not what I wanted to imply, it's more like, in the late/endgame if you want to call it that, a small kingdom would have massive problems establishing themselves/surviving if they don't have some kind of patron nation that protects them.
Therefore, not every clan should be automatically be structured like a monarchy.
In the end, it should be up to the players I guess, some people like to play against the odds I guess.

 

Yeh, that's the thing. Not every kingdom SHOULD be structured like a monarchy, but trust me, they will. And like someone further up was saying, it sounded like they were going to have communism. I would personally sink my blade into his neck like a hot knife through cold butter if I were to live in his city/ prison. By the way, if someone wants to do that, I doubt anyone will join your city. I think an assassination will be in order.

Anyways, MOLE will have our own kingdom. Along with assassins and kings and what not. I plan to be a battlemage. I will be the perfect hybrid between a noble knight and a wicked wizard. I will ride around the lands on my majestic steed, liberating city after city, until the MOLE kingdom thrives endlessly.

That's exactly what I meant by everyone wants to be the most bamf hero to grace the face of the planet and it just simply will not happen here. You can say you want to do all that stuff, great, but when it comes down to it, you're going to end up catapult fodder. I don't think the concept of permanent death is getting through to some people lol

Also, on my server, you're not going to be able to enter the game world and just instantly team up with a bunch of your clan buddies and rule the map. Nope. Not gonna happen. I'm going to keep it balanced. If you want to get together a nation, build a kingdom, form alliances and all that jazz, you are going to do it from the ground up just the same as anyone else. You'll rely on your in character knowledge alone. You're not going to get the upper hand on everyone else just because you have a clan out of character. But I'm sure there will be at least one server that will tend to that gamestyle for you. Just not as fun in my opinion.

Don't you get a fantasy? Games are made to feel like you are on the top of the world. And if I don't get that feeling when I'm playing this, I may not play that much. I know the reality of it all, but can't you just have a little fun? You act like it is real life, which it isn't, I might add. This game was also made to BE WITH your clan buddies. And once again, if I can't have that, I may not play that often. All of that was half joking anyways. Oh, and not to be mean, but if that are the rules on your server, you won't be seeing me on it. Simple as that. Your server will take away from the game itself, therefore I feel no one will want to play on it.

 

I know and I understand that. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, man. I understand you like it your way, and there are people that like it my way. I'm not trying to take away from you what you think is fun and I'm certainly not going to insult your style of gaming. To each their own.
However, you might not want to play much of Overworld then because it has been stated that, although the perma death system will be a serverside option, the acutally game mode will be built around it. MM wants the game to have a deeper, story driven game style. It's focus will not be on deathmatch. Personally, I find the deeper roleplay experience more fun than mundane "kill, respawn, kill, respawn" rinse and repeat, so on and so forth.

So yes, I will offer people a civilized, balanced, in depth server to play on. I never said you had to join it.

 

I'm not trying to pick a fight either. I hate the Call of Duty style die then respawn as well. I simply don't agree with some of your logic. Why would you intentionally separate friends? I mean, isn't that what gaming is all about? Having a fun experience with your friends? I do understand that it is going to be hard to get to that level, but that was simply a fantasy; something I was writing out of my ass. I love the idea of rags to riches and building up a civilization as much as you, but how would you possibly do that with none of your buddies? I don't get it, but it's your mind, therefore I can't change it.

 

You will make new friends in the game. I mean, of course you can still play with your friends, just meet them in the world and form an in character relationship with them. Like, I plan on playing with my best friend and my girlfriend and I'm going to use her as an example.
Suppose her and I both spawned as new players, in character (IC) we would not have any knowledge of each other. I would introduce myself as whatever my name in the game was, and we would build a relationship from there. Her and I would still be playing together (because I know she probably wouldn't even want to play if she couldn't play with me lol) I'm not saying you can't play with your friends, that would be ridiculous. But when you just go into a game with a massive clan and start teaming up without any motive or reason to dominate the game, that deeper experience is lost and it just turns into deathmatch. Understand that I want it to be balanced for all players, even the ones that go into it alone and without any friends. They can ICly make friends and allies.
