You don't get it do you? It will never be only p2p it will be premium content and F2P content. Anyone who doesn't want to pay can play the same game you are playing right now. P2Pers will be getting more complex RTS stuff added in for their money spent, at least thats the idea so far.

I don't know if I'm going to pay anything but I rather won't. (I could change my mind.) But still, I'd like to be able to host premium server.

I would probably pay like $50 for this game if some of the current issues are fixed. I don't see why so many people are complaining and refusing to pay, it's obvious a lot of you have put time into this game. I mean you spend $20 going out to a movie and that's only for like two hours.

I'd pay $50 too, but realistically they can't price it that high.
It'd hurt sales too much, especially as people expect an indie game like this to cost much less.

15$ would be a nice price.

I would buy it but my connection is so bad lately that I cant play any online game...

We're never going to cut out the option to play the game for free, guys :) that really would be "killing the game".

Once we do give the option to buy a paid version, the minimum price will likely be very low and ramp up over time as that version approaches what we envision now, though we've yet to decide on a "Maximum" price. fwiw minecraft is eventually going to cost 20 euros, which is ~30 USD. The "expected" lower price for indie games is a kick in the guts commercially but we'll manage ;)

In fairness, the lower price for indie games represents the significantly lower overheads you have (a mainstream game costs millions to produce). It also generally leads to increased sales and reduced piracy.
So it makes sound business sense ;)

I do not understand why am I supposed to pay 60 bucks for a big commercial title any more than for an indie game.

You guys could just make the game donationware. Or you could use one of the early builds as a "free 2 play" sort of deal, one before drawbridges were made buildable (or after whichever works :p)

This is why we have piracy :)

The games industry is horribly bloated, so costs are far too high, so they have to charge a lot.
It could be done a lot cheaper, but then people would have to change the status quo.
And that would be far too hard [/sarcasm].

Its all a bit silly really. Hopefully the upsurge of indie gaming will force the industry to have a re-think about how it does things. I doubt it though.

A mainstream game generally has drastically higher sales than your average indie game, though I'll agree with the reduced piracy aspect. The thing that irks me is that making a fun, polished game doesn't cost millions of dollars - but that doesn't prevent EA et al from spending that much making a game.

    @Sani
The current version is going to be the free version. We haven't started work on what we see a payed version of KAG being.

Word on the street is that payed servers might not be so far away though, fwiw.
