Yeah, probably. I want to practise with small images to get the importance of a single pixel changing the way an image looks, burned into my brain. Meanwhile, tried shading with a more complex shape than a cube/sphere. Not entirely satisfied how the guard turned out though. It's meant to be a shortsword/gladius.
Could be done with less colors, and I'm not sure you are supposed to dither on a sprite that small. Did a very minor edit on the hilt.
It looks significantly better. Thanks!
--- merged: Feb 1, 2013 11:09 PM ---
Made two sprites today using tutorials as guidelines. First being an attempt to create a detailed rock/boulder, but it's pretty bad. The other is a tiled grass sprite, which I'm actually quite happy with. It's weird how just adding a third color adds a lot of depth to the image. My brain has troubles accepting that, maybe that's why I'm not that artistic to begin with :p I also messed around with the grass to make it a bit more interesting and/or magical. (I call it moongrass now) It's blue because I felt like it.
I have a few basic things I've been doing when I'm bored. Spoiler: Large Image Warning A basic sprite sheet I've basically been using to learn new styles. Note that the "top" of the ITEM section is what I did first (a few years ago) while the ones on the bottom are a lot more recent (a few months ago) Also, monochrome. Cause I'm colourblind. (Sorry for the large image, guys! I made it 8x so people could easily view it without it being so small, haha.) The characters for a future game I plan to make, Eternal Season. These are early designs, and will probably be changed in the future, haha. I know I've already changed Luna's antenna again. And yes, Ami is supposed to be flying. She's a mage. Also, my avatar! But for those who can't see it, here: The floor I blatantly ripped off the 3DS game Mutant Mudds, unable to think of a proper grass design at the time. The only thing different are the colours, and the "soil" part, iirc.
While they may not be technically excellent those colourful kids are charming and full of character which is worth much more than any expertly executed but bland sprites.
Not sure if it even constitutes as art. I just felt bored and wanted to make something really quick.
--- merged: Jun 8, 2013 4:21 PM ---
A template for a spinning card animation. I am planning on making an Yggdra Union themed gif animation (cards are cool shit over there). Surprisingly difficult to make for me as a person who cannot imagine 3d objects and movement very well.
You're pretty good at this, Fate! I think I might try to get back into AT,CT and start spriting again...
Buster Sword's (I think it's called?) flame effect looks quite nice. An actual flame. It looks sharp as well, I'd prefer to see some more shading+colours though, but I'm not sure if that's the style you wanted to emulate. The second sword's guard could use some additional shading as well, looks a bit too bland. For the edge, try not to make the middle part not black but rather a contrasting gray tone (the blade looks unnaturally segmented right now) As for the robot, try to add depth to the the segments, to make them stand out and look less flat. Don't be afraid to use more colours and contrast (actually, contrast is the key to good shading, is what I have learned).
yea you dont have to use the same color for contrast. also try not to use so much black. see here for more: http://colorschemedesigner.com/ (click Analogic)
The current Kerbal Space Program solar system. :D Been trying to get into doing more pixel art, I just can't think of fun things to draw :(
I like the solar system, but kind of looks the planets have been just copy-pasted there, could use some deeper shading.
--- merged: Jul 10, 2013 7:34 PM ---
For another forum, I made elemental orbs (some of I have posted here already), but now all four elements have been done. They were made for simply some flavor, as the topic itself was a series of challenges regarding dreaming. Water Earth Wind Fire By far, a believable flame has been the most difficult thing I have ever drawn and animated.
