    But Scrafty... is cool :<
The worst are the ones that are based on inanimate things, like a fucking ice cream pokemon, that evolves on a double ice cream pokemon
    Really?

    Agree with contrary.
Also, Tauros wearing a wig, and another Pokeball lookalike Pokemon, although this ones a mushroom.
While their will always be new objects to make into Pokemon, Ihonestly don't want to stick around for Chairozard and Benchotop.

But you just said..."Want to whip your ass with a Pokemon that looks like a chair"
    Comtradict self much?

    Let me see...
    Patrat-Biddoof learnt to stand up?
Watchog- Sentret and Linoone mash up.
Lillipup- Do I even need to point out how original ANOTHER dog Pokemon set is?
Purrloin- IT DOES PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING AS GLAMEOW AND DELCATTY!
Pansage, Panpour and Pansear. Right. Monkeys. Again. Primeape. Ambipom.
Pidove- Mutant Street Rat form of Starly and Pidgy. Seriously, did they need another 3 pigeons!?
Zebstrika- Shinx and Luxray powers given to Rapidash and Ponyta.
Roggenrola and so forth- Ok, these ones are just plain Wierd... The way their evolution progresses reminds me a LOT of Geodude, but I still think they look cool.
Woobat, Swoobat- Woobat, Swoobat, Crobat, Zubat (To the tune of One Fish Two Fish by Dr.Suess.)
Drilbur- I have mixed feelings about. Kinda original and it's not cliche either.
Audino- WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Some fat milktank fairy thing?
Timburr, Gurdurr- Just different graphic Machops, that like to hold stuff for no reason.
Paliptoad, so forth- That's right, Polywhirl, Polywag and Polywrath got ground element and a lot of acne or mosquito bites or just Wierd lumps.
Throh, Sawk- Karate Masters who accidentally fell in vats of paint.
Sewaddle, etc.- So, Wurple, Metapod and Gallade got covered in leaf litter? Tragic.
Venipede, Scolipede- Mixed feelings about these...Their already a lot too many poison bug types, all it seems these have is moves like Rollout and different graphics.
    Petillil-Budew.
Basculin- Just a fish. A magikarp with a colored stripe that can actually DO SOMETHING.
Sandile- I like this, although its tad reminiscent of the whole Hippopotas sceme. (Take water animal, put in desert.)
    Maractus, the Mexican cacturn?

Now, I don't think they should have pokemon that fill the same specific role as others, because that's pretty much just a sprite change...
Sure, there are a few human shaped fighting pokemon already, but Im not saying humanoid fighting types are bad, I'm saying they've already done that. I'm against repetition in pokemon, mostly. and with gen 5 we're seeing too much of it.
Indian Elephants and African Elephants? No. Not a valid argument. They are BOTH Elephants, so they should be very similar. Pokemon have no noticable "evolutionary line" (I dont mean actual "Evolving" in game as that doesn't represent real life creature evolution well enough, as it is done over a tiny time scale, with a single creature, not a large amoung of generations of them.) so it follows that pokemon should look sufficently different, even if they fill the same-ish role. Thylaccines and wolves still look very different. (Sorry, keyboard is messed for some reason. Also, musketeers aside, Virizion and Co. Still look ALOT like Legendary dog/tiger things.
Also, a bit rusty on japanese names, what is Tsujarta again? Snivy, right? If so, I don't care about snivy. The starters are fine.
Canned arguments are not good because it tried to make rebuttal against points I haven't raised.

TL;DR pokemon having a unique aspect I.E Resembling a Pokeball in some way, is fine. ANOTHER Pokemon resembling a Pokeball in a slightly different way, is, for me, not.
(Voltorb and that mushroom thingy whose name I dont care about.)

If there's one thing I love about franchise-fever is that it keeps old stuff relevant. I may prefer the Pokemon/Mario/Zelda/Halo/Battlefield/CoD/Monkey Island/Blizzard game/HoM&M/Bethesda game/Majesty/Oddworld/Serious Sam/AoE/C&C/Civ/Etcetera of yesteryear, but I love that newer games exist. think how many people were introduced to Deus Ex through DH:HR, regardless of how awesome/sucky DE:HR may have been. Think of how many awesome old games would have been forgotten if it weren't for the continuation of the franchise and/or it's creators. Wolfenstein may have been sub-par, but I wonder how many thousands of people, all previously ignorant, were introduced to the awesomeness of the previous games in the franchise by this new addition?

Perhaps the newer games don't do anything for you, but remember their value. :)

I agree on some of those but many of the Pokemon you listed perform unique roles gameplay wise... Like for example Lillipup and its evo are top sand sweepers and is one of the main reasons to use sand. Scollipede and Garbodor are great hazard setters and both look pretty original. Swoobat is much different from the Crobat line. Swoobat can run duel screens and a CM set whereas Crobat is more of like a decently bulky lead/stall breaker/scout/revenge killer.

A lot of the pokemon are redundant and forgettable though, like Zebstrika is basically a ghetto Manectric or something. There are a few dumb cats and several completely forgettable bird lines.

However, it's not like old generation's didn't have completely redundant Pokemon, we've just forgotten about them. Think of stuff like Wigglytuff, a Gen 1 Poke that has always been the shadow of other pink blobs like Chansey and Clefable. Typhlosion has literally the exact same stats as Charizard except is missing the Flying secondary type. Don't forgot the 5 billion moth and butterfly type Pokemon.

On a different topic, has anyone here played Pokemon Conquest? Trying to decide if its worth it.

  13. Hey guys, I just thought I should share this with you. It might shut the 'OMG NEW GEN SUX LOL' people up.

Some guy took the time out to calculate the amount of inanimate/animal/mythological/etc pokemon that exist.

And yes, there was always a garbage pokemon. Grimer/Muk, anyone? While that's effluence rather than rubbish, the idea is the same.

I would like to point out that i not saying there is any MORE of a particular type, just that that particular type is worse.
    Although I love the math.
I suppose im also annoyed at the whole "Capture X/Y, win game, Hunt the 3 Z then capture the super Y/X thing" thats going on.

    Also, what is with N?
Doesnt fit the regular villain mould at at.

Fine, ill stop arguing about Gen 5, as we'll never agree.

  15. That's the way it's been for some time now. More time has passed since the start of gen III (2002 in Japan) than from gen I - III (1995 - 2002).

Honestly, we can argue all we like, and sure, hate on Garbodor all you like, it ain't even that good statistically, but hey! Gamefreak's gonna gamefreak for some time to come and all the haters gonna hate.

Uhh..Did you read the bit about me giving up the argument?

  17. N doesn't have to fit with the 'generic villain mould'. That can only last for so long before we cry "BORED!"

I for one, welcome the introduction of an anti-villain rather than a straight up evil dude.

(And no I didn't, I posted these then got the alert you had posted.)

By the way, just so's you know, Drillbur is based of the Mischevious Mole enemies from the Mother/Earthbound series. Game Freak and Itoi are closely related in Nintendo.

    Think about it.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Quite similar, no? It's a bit of an homage.
