I live near New Orleans. Trust me, you get used to it. It's raining right now.

they don't melt as fast, so the drink stays cool longer.

I'm not sure that's how ice works. If the drink is getting colder, the ice is melting, invariably. Larger ice cubes probably melt faster due to greater surface area. Mind you, by the time they get smaller, the average temperature of the solution will be lower, so they'll melt slower once they reach the same size. So you're just putting more "cold" into your drink, quantitatively. Also, more water. And watering down your cider is silly.

if you use the same volume of ice, but of smaller pieces, they will melt faster initially. This will just make the entire system (glass + drink + ice/water) gain energy at a higher rate. In idiot language, the drink will lose cold faster and will inevitably become warm sooner. Unless, of course, you manage to finish it all before the ice melts.
    TLDR: larger pieces last longer.

Edit: i'm assuming we're comparing equal total volumes of ice, not the number of cubes.

Yes. I am in agreement. Now post a picture, because we are getting off-topic. Interesting point about energy gain via changing states tho.

It is customary where I am from to chill the glass, and to serve drinks at a cool temperature. It's just an interesting point by which to start a discussion on cultural differences.

Or use plastic icecubes although they're considered unhygienic...

Let's stop posting about 1st world problems and start posting pictures again?

I'm not an idiot, I know how that works, have done a bit of physics in my time. But the ice is unnecessarily large. Doesn't take to long to drink a drink.

  20. I don't remember the name, and it's a fairly local one anyway. I think it's As the Palace Burns or something like that.
