Ella wandered across the grassland, searching for the source of the smoke. A small grove of trees, now blackened, sat beside the charred remains of a village.
She saw some sort of camp set up at the edge of the wreckage, with a guy relaxing in a... bathtub? Who takes a bath in front of a destroyed town?! Near him was a demon-like creature, his red skin highlighted in the now fading light. That was definitely a strange duo. Unless they weren't as friendly to each other as she assumed...
It would probably be best to remain hidden until she figured out what was going on. She ducked behind a fallen branch, still lightly smouldering from the fire.

Ryes set foot outside his hut on the outskirts of his village. He lives alone and tends to keep to himself. So he just has a backpack a few pouches on his belt and his gauntlet which is his weapon of choice since he was a child. Hes going to set out and see what the worlds about.. he wants to conquer the scared child inside of him and become a man.
He walks forward completely into the forest away from the village he believes he heard people yelling and fighting but he refused to go into the Village to say any goodbyes to anyone he may be close to.

4. 32 years later…

"Combine rune of expansion with rune of sword and rune of multiplicity ten and rune of gale to enable flight of ten large swords toward target."

Kylar drew a sharp line and the number 10 rune and some swift movements and 10 shining swords appeared from thin air and hit the wall opposite to him.

"Hmmm...seems like I'm getting better. Still using a lot of energy though. I'll need to brew some energy potions soon."

After another few hours of studying, he went into the locked cellar of the lair and brought out a bag of coins to pay the servants that still cleaned and maintained the lair.

As he tossed the empty bag onto the table carelessly and decided to head out and collect ingredients for his energy potions.
But as he approached the door, he sighted a quarrel, perhaps a brawl. The circle of servants were arguing with someone.
Kylar approached the gathering.

"What's going on here?" Kylar asked.
"Sir, someone is trying to enter here, and he claims to be Gorth, we never even heard of him." a servant replied.

Gorth. Kylar suddenly remembered. Perhaps this is when it all began. His assigned task of serving the son of his savior. It had all been coming up to this. And as soon as he finished this task, he would owe the dead man nothing more. He would be free, he would remember him still, but would be free. Free to enact his deepest dreams.

"Let him in. Come. You are Gorth? You look like your father." exclaimed Kylar.
"Hmmth. Peasants." replied the near middle-aged man at the entrance of the lair.

"So...you say are Gorth. Son of the owner of this place?" asked Kylar.
"Indeed. I've never seen you before. How did you become the owner of this place? And when did my father pass away? Why did I not receive this news?" demanded the man.
"Very well. I shall tell you about it." replied Kylar.

Kylar was not a foolish man anymore. With the immortality that Gorth's father granted him, he would be invincible. But he sought not to conquer the land, but to lead a peaceful life and become a master of creation. Reading over half the library in these 32 years, Kylar had learnt not only of the history, physics and secrets of the world, but also of morality. Of justice, loyalty and courage. But Kylar despised such things. His mind could not see such things as qualities to be glorified. He did not know why himself.

Kylar deceived Gorth. He told his story that he was the companion of Gorth's father and he had saved his life and was indebted to Gorth's father. Therefore, he decided to repay him by granting his wish on his deathbed. That was to aid Gorth during his lifetime.

"Very well. First things first. Those servants. We can't let them go. With them here, they'll betray us or spread the news of my location of inhabitance. We must make them live here, with their families. And since you are a powerful magician, you shall transport the purchased supplies that we shall use to maintain our living standards here as well as carrying out my revenge..."

Gorth requested for Kylar to gather rare ingredients from all over the land. And so Kylar complied. And within a few weeks, which would take a normal man several decades, Kylar had gathered all the ingredients that Gorth required.

In Kylar's search for these ingredients, he had slain a whole city of humans mercilessly just to obtain a jewel of the desert. He had slain legendary beasts which were fabled to be "none have fought this creature and lived to tell the tale". He had conquered vast deserts and in-climbable mountains and even picked a herb from the inner crater of an active volcano...

He returned, only slightly tired and handed Gorth the ingredients that he had expected to receive in a few years.

Gorth was delighted. He grabbed a book from the bottom of the library and flipped several particular pages. Using the book, he separated the ingredients into 3 piles.

He then labelled each pile:
"Shadow Death Potion"
"Entity Control"
"The Shroud"

The Shroud loomed before Prospor, it had finally reached its destination. It floated closer and closer, casting a vast shadow over the city, people looked up from their work, unsure of what to do. The Shroud formed a misty claw, and raked it through the area, people screamed and ran, some stood their ground. The Shroud was so much more powerful than ever before, it had grown in size, strength, and speed, it had new powers. As it cut a bloody swathe through the citizens of Prospor, it never paused, it didn't have emotions.

It was not long before a band of "heroes" had arrived, The Shroud picked out the lead one, and fired a bolt of corruption. It hit the man full on the chest, and he writhed on the ground, his flesh twisting, changing, and it absorbed the others, when it had finished, it was a mass of flesh, with multiple arms and legs, claws and fingers. It was an "Abomination of Gorth" the beast had multiple heads sticking out, which resembled the heroes. The Shroud turned back to Prospor, and continued the attack.

=================================================================================

Frost was getting tired, but the Minotaur behind him wasn't, it had as much energy as when it had started chasing him, he stumbled along, and saw a tree, Frost scampered up it as if his life depended on it, in this case, it did. He clung onto the tree, as if he was trying to suffocate it, but the Minotaur's continuous blows upon it, sending it toppling down.

Frost felt the heavy hoof slam down on his chest, he wheezed, more pressure was applied, until Frost thought that his chest was going to burst. The Minotaur bent down closer, and Frost could do nothing as the saliva dripped down onto his face. He closed his eyes, "is this how it ends?" he thought, just as he could bear the pressure no more, he heard the Minotaur squeal and the beating of wings.

Frost opened his eyes, and saw a gleaming, magnificent, vermilion dragon. The dragon had eaten the Minotaur, it crunched down on the remains, and turned its head, towards him. "I mean no harm!" he shouted in Scalothian, the dragon just roared.

He had no time to dodge, the dragon breathed fire, and it enveloped him. He cried out in pain, trying to put out the fire clinging to his body, he had to get away from the dragon. He grunted painfully, and tripped, into a small cave. He tumbled down, crying out in a mix of anger, surprise and pain, and landed in a pool of water.

//I nearly forgot about the Shroud and it going towards Prospor :p I would say that Vesuvis is 4/10 on the evil scale.

Considering Ryes is from Ravens home town its extremely close to Prosper, he notices some kind of "Shroud". He makes his way towards Prosper to only see completel chaos his knee's shake and he starts to cry.

9. Just as Arthen was about to attack Raven, he was struck by immense pain. "Huh?" Raven wondered. "Argh! It... Let us continue this fight another day." Arthen said before dashing off. "Hey! Where ya going!?" Raven shouted as he chased after him.

Raven had no idea where they were headed, but Arthen knew. Prospor.

//What is Prosper, and how do I into it?

With the sudden liquidation of the strange disgusting man, Vesuvis was getting restless. The child seemed to had taken the form of a daemonic entity, blessed (or cursed!) with fire that could be summoned at will from its claws. A dreaded beast similar to such creatures that caused the fall of Beluaterra. Unfortunately now, he did not have waves of men to send against the beast or tall walls to fend such a creature off. All he had now was the metal walls of the couldron he was bathing in.

Such entertainment! Vesuvis thought, You could never get these kind of things back home. He popped another of the corn kernals into his mouth. Nearby, Vos was collecting more wood to burn for his pot. Vesuvis said to him, "Vos, I have decided on what to call these things."

"Milord?" Vos said.

"I shall call them Vos Burgers in honor of you." Vesuvis said, content that his choice of name would strike a chord with all peoples. "Let it be known that you created these delicious morsels."

Vos bowed low. He then said, "Milord, I forgive me if it is beyond my stature, but I would suggest we move to a more suitable location. The supplies here are low and we will require cloth to help us keep warm."

"As always, you are right," Vesuvis sighed. His bath was starting to become lukewarm anyway.

As the mass of grey mist known as The Shroud entered Prospor, a lone messenger on horseback exited.
He galloped through the closest towns atop his steed, all the while shouting "Prospor is under attack from The Shroud! Rally the men!"
Eventually he came to the charred remains of a village. He could see no sign of life, but still he shouted his message, and on he moved through the quickly darkening sky, spreading the word of danger.

~~~
Ella was disrupted from her act of spying on the two strangers as the messenger flew past her. She caught his message, and realised she would have to let them be for now. There was a greater threat.
She stood up, casting her spell to call Marvel to her. Fortunately it seemed the pegasus had been nearby, for a soft whinny echoed through the dark sky. She circled above Ella, before finally deciding to come down.
Although a little rusty on her flying skills, Ella hopped atop her. The two shot into the sky, straight for Prospor.
//Also, to the new roleplayers, Ella befriended this Pegasus called Marvel... lol, read back a little if you want to find out about it xD
And no auto-correct, I don't want to change "pegasus" to "sugar-peas" D:
18. "These two I know. But what is this...'The Shroud'?" Kylar asked.
"Haven't you read the books? I thought you read over half of them."
"I did. But I started from the top." Kylar replied.
"Here. This book." Kylar had the book thrown violently at him. He caught it easily in one hand and flipped through the book.
The list continued on.
He reached a blank page. His hand moved to brush the dust off the page. As the dust disappeared, words started to appear.
Kylar read the last line. Runes. Ancient Runes. He somehow knew how to read them.
"The Shroud hungers for darkness. It's purpose is to devour the darkest darkness of all." he read.
"Yes. Indeed. That's why I asked you to get this." Gorth held up a vial of sparkling clear liquid.
"That? You made it didn't you? I still don't understand how a small vial of clear water is going to let you control The Shroud." Kylar replied.
"Do not worry. This isn't any old water. It's called Eternal Liquid Light. Apparently light trapped in liquid. Brightest known object in the entire existence of Loth. It's fabled. After all, it was made from the ashes of an Angel, rocks from the Sun and Creation Powder. And it was all thanks to you, Kylar. You've done a great job."
"But how will we get the darkest of darkness? I do not understand, Gorth." Kylar pointed out.
"Easy. Use reverse magic." Gorth replied, seemingly proud.
"Aren't you afraid of The Shroud?" Kylar commented.
Gorth grinned like a mad man.
"That's why we got this." He held up another 3 vials of liquid. Except this time, the liquid was milky white. It smelt strange and just by looking at it, Kylar felt slightly dizzy.
"Don't look at it for too long." Kylar snapped his eyes away.
"I know what this is. It's Mind Control Elixir!" exclaimed Kylar.
Kylar continued: "Do you think it'll actually work? I mean...how will you get it to consume this..."
"Darkness? Bait? DUUUH..." laughed Gorth.
Kylar started to laugh as well.
The unison of their laughter would be the most horrible laughter in the entire kingdom of Loth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few months later...
Kylar could not fall asleep. The King had been slain and he had escaped from The Shroud as it tried to escape from Gorth's grasp. However, he heard that Gorth had tamed The Shroud and has entirely changed a person.
Kylar dare not return to the lair. Soon after, several days of walking, he arrived at a small village. He stayed at the inn and conclude that his debt to Gorth's father had been repaid. After all, Gorth already had The Shroud. What else did he need?
Kylar was dining at the inn. He had ordered the finest roast chicken and mushroom soup and as he dined, he thought about his future. He was immortal. He could do anything he want. But being immortal wouldn't mean that he would be happy. He needed a companion. One who was also immortal, a female, who would care for him and be with him forever.
"OIII! Open up! OPEN UP! It's time to pay up, trash!" shouted a huge man as he stormed into the inn. The innkeeper immediately took out a large bag of coins from behind the counter from a locked safe and handed the cash across to the snarling man.
"YOU SH*T C*NT! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? ARE YOU PAYING LESS? WHERE'S THE OTHER 50 COINS?" roared the bearded giant.
"I'm sorry sir, I must have miscounted, here you go! I'm sorry sir! I'll give you 50 extra coins as an apology!" squeaked the innkeeper as he shakily dropped 100 coins into the man's hand. The man carried a short sword on his side, a large horn on his other side, and a massive battleaxe on his back. He seemed to be the incredibly rough feudal kind.
Kylar sipped his mushroom soup as he watched the man count his money. Suddenly, the man caught eye of him, and immediately pointed to him, snarling, trying to appear intimidating.
"YOU! WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT SQUIMP? BETTER SHOVE YOUR ASS OUT THE DOOR BEFORE I SHOVE MY SWORD UP YOUR ASS! NOW PAY UP BEFORE YOU GO! 100 COINS THAT IS!" he spat.
Kylar was amused. He wipes the spit from his face and pulled out his small bag. He dipped his hand inside.
The giant expected money. And money he would get. Kylar's other hand traced runes behind his back. The bands on his arms glowed and with one flick of a finger, the giant fell over for no reason at all. The inn was filled with laughter that died in less than a second as the giant got up, more furious than bull and glared around the inn. He looked back at Kylar and suspected him immediately. It didn't matter.
The giant reached for his battleaxe and brought it over his head toward Kylar. Kylar dodged easily, simply stepping to the left once. He drew some more runes faster than the eye could see and tapped the giant in the stomach. The giant suddenly seemed to squashed in some sort of invisible net. He spasmed and roared in pain, then flew through the brick wall of the inn and out onto the street. He struggle to get up and then, after a few seconds, finger reaching out toward Kylar, fell down, blood spurting and frothing from his mouth. The villagers on the street and inside the inn stared at him in awe.
"What are you looking at? Back to work! Or whatever you were doing!" shouted Kylar. All the villagers immediately pretended not to notice, as if they were completely oblivious to what had happened. Kylar went back to the inn, and with another few rapid motions of his right hand, the wall reverted back to its original state. Kylar picked up the coins on his way back to his desk and tossed the bag, half-full onto the innkeeper's desk.
"Hey you! Half of these are mine now. I saved your money and got rid of that guy for good, so half of this is mine." claimed Kylar. The innkeeper nodded and immediately locked the money back up again and went into the back of the inn, perhaps scared of Kylar.
However, he emerged a few seconds later, carrying a parchment and a beautiful bottle of wine. Offering both items to Kylar, he smiled and went back to his counter.
Kylar did not ask any questions. He simply opened the bottle, took a swig and started to unravel the parchment.
Kylar pulled the parchment down and turned his head away from the radiant figure on the parchment. Her hair was the brightest living gold, and despite the plain clothing she wore, seemed to set a crown of divinity on her head. Her brow was clear and ample, her blue eyes cloudless, and her lips and the moulding of her face so expressive of sensibility and sweetness that none could behold her without looking on her as an exotic inhuman saint, bearing a celestial stamp in all her features.
No amount of words nor magic could express Kylar's amount of awe or intrigue. He thanked the innkeeper before he head back upstairs to his room and lay down on the bed, mind only filled with imagery of the girl. He fell asleep dreaming of a sweet cottage, he and her, only them, on a vast sweeping grassland, happy.
--- merged: Jan 26, 2013 12:18 PM ---
Kylar woke up in the middle of the night. He thrashed about, pain searing through his back. He ripped the bed sheets and fell off the bed onto the floor in agony. This continued for a well while until he passed out.
But as he was passed out, a great shadow loomed above the village. Screams could be heard in the distance as the shadow grew larger. Lights turned on and people fled out onto the streets. But no one escaped. The village was demolished.
When Kylar woke up again, he found himself covered in black ash. The charred remains of the village surrounded him. He observed the trail of black and followed it with his eyes. In the distant he observed a huge burning mass. The Shroud. Prosper.
Kylar was not a foolish man anymore. The knowledge he had gained from reading over half the library's book had enable him precautionary tactics. He had laid down sunlight runes around his body. However, over half of his bed was missing and he wasn't even on the bed.
He stood up and searched the wreckage, hoping for anything useful, not expecting any existence of life forms. Eventually, he found his sack. Inside, he pulled out his bag of coins and his bag of various ingredients and hung them around his waste. He sat down on the floor, starting write runes on the ground.
The runes started to glow and soon runes ran along the street of the decimated village. After a few hours, Kylar had finished the whole street of the village. He wiped the sweat from his brow and placed his palm on the ground.
"AG34OHorny2n3v89ta9" he muttered.
The runes began to gather to the dirt at his hand and soon the light became more and more intense at that location. He shoved his hand into the ground and pulled out a hilt, then a blade. A single edged sword. It's slightly blue edge was blinding in the sunlight. Kylar created a scabbard and sheathed his sword.
Patting off the dirt from his clothes, he strode towards Prospor.
19. Raven and Arthen had arrived at their destination. "What exactly is this place?" Raven asked. "It's Prospor, haven't you heard of it?" Arthen replied. "Nah." Raven said. He then spotted a familiar something attacking the city. He quickly remembered. "Hey! The Shroud!?" He said in surprise. Arthen steps foward, prepared to strike. "Whoa, whoa, where do ya think you're going?" Raven stopped Arthen. "That...Thing must die. Now." Arthen said. "I don't think so. Have you seen the things this monster can do? It'll shred you in less than a second! We should wait for backup." Raven suggested. "Waiting wastes time. Besides, I've had a little...Encounters with this thing myself." Arthen says as he dashes off to chase the Shroud.
While the fire that had engulfed him so recently had been extinguished by the water, the pain remained. He leaped out of the water gracefully, and tripped over a rock and fell, not as gracefully. He found a skeleton, with a bag of money, and a rucksack containing some food, and other, trivial items.
He saw a small hole, that he supposed Tooth could go through, the sword morphed once more to it's true form. "Tooth, see if you can find something useful." While Frost was waiting, he ate some of the food, as he hadn't eaten for a very long time. Tooth poked a shovel, "Great work Tooth!" Tooth chittered proudly.
He rejoiced as he broke through the last part of the ground, he was free. He felt a sharp bite on his finger, "Ow! Tooth!" Tooth hissed in anger, looking at the food, Frost sighed and tossed his last piece of food away. He saw a figure walking towards a smoking city, where a strange misty creature was attacking.
He ran towards the thing, hoping to draw it's attention, yelling all the way…
