Does this mean I can uninstall BitArmor security system, SocketShield, and kapernsky security from my computer now?

The joke would have been funny, but here is a suggestion. When you make a joke, don't tell people it's not a joke, especially if it's something serious like this. I was worried that I was going to have to reinstall Windows.

I had just told them about the issue, random people gaining admin powers on all servers and they fixed it.

As for the rest: I didn't think it was a joke, as they didn't tell me.
    My bad.

I expect indie developers to make April Fools jokes. However, this is the first time I have seen one seriously tell its community there was a security breach.

    1. Would it have been funny if someone canceled the credit cards they use for online purchases? Or a "young family member's" parents canceled the card they used to buy their kid KAG?

    2. Would people have laughed if this was a joke on April 1st? http://venturebeat.com/2011/11/10/valve-steam-service-experiences-security-breach/

    3. Could you not think of something creative and enjoyable like this? http://blog.wolfire.com/2012/04/Announcing-Overgrowth-Villages?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed: WolfireGames (Wolfire Blog)

    4. And is this not a completely plausable situation?

The hypothetical breach you described is arguably even worse than what happened to Valve. Any kind of keylogger could be installed.

EDIT: April Fools is supposed to be fun. Security breaches are not fun. This was done in poor taste.

I didn't even read the build updates unless it's going to be zombie multiplay release. I perhaps should stop missing out on patch notes.

I agree with Koolala. As far as I'm concerned, for April Fools you could have made random bison appear in-game or something, but not a "Security Breach"; that's just ғμ¢қεכ up.

If you had to pick the top three days out of the year to hack a community and get the most laughs, which would they be?

Christmas, but because I'm a sadistic bastard.

Anyways, it was April Fools, you shouldn't take anything on the internet seriously on April 1st.

    edit: Fine
    * New Years to send the community to a great start that year
    * When the of the game is finally released as (almost near completion)

You forgot the second and third day.

    EDIT:
    I would pick:

    1. April Fools
    2. Christmas (since less people might be online)
    3. New Years
Its the one day no one will believe the developers even if they say

You said it yourself. "you shouldn't take anything on the internet seriously on April 1st."

  12. (By the way, I was kidding about all that uninstalling security stuff). I'm pretty sure when you are an indie programmer bringing home your own bacon, you can make as many serious april fools jokes as you want. It wasn't even that bad.

If someone seriously hacked the game as they said on April Fools, they probably wouldn't have just made a post in the forums.

1.) An email would have probably been sent out (they do have it you know), to let you the exact details of what happened and it would probably tell you to not even launch the game and to just delete it and run a scan.
2.) There would have been a warning on the other sites as well, like at http://kag2d.com/ and the download would have probably been restricted.
3.) They would have told everyone not to launch the game until the patch is released, and not have waited until the patch was made, obviously.

I agree they could of gone out of their way to make the joke worse. Would a "young family member" and their parents have picked up on your three points? Did everyone in the forums?

EDIT: I am only trying to argue that the joke was in poor taste. I don't believe "Oh my God, could you babies cry more? Seriously?" is the correct response to a upset community.

EDIT EDIT: Also please don't edit my posts with replys. I had just made that first EDIT when it was deleted by someone editing this post in:

" erm, yes? It's standard to check multiple sources if you suspect a hoax... >.> ~fbb "

Any April Fools joke is in poor taste. As Fuzzy edited in your post, yes they should have. If you just check one source on April Fools, you deserve to fall for it in all honesty. Like I said it's April Fools and no one takes anything seriously. It's the day you don't take anything seriously unless you have harder proof.

Also all the :shad: should have tipped you off. If it really was serious, do you think those really would have been edited in?

Also Bonesauce is just a member and only just some guy on the forums. You can ignore his opinion since he can say as he wishes. It's the internet, people will call other people "babies," porn is to the left, and racial slurs and nazis are to the right.

    Also :shad: is fun.

I know. My "pick a day" question was targeting him.

My point is, there is nothing fun / funny about a security breach.

How comes that having full control of the game to add whatever ridiculous and funny things you want (like Shad did with the forums), you resort to making a false announcement to trouble the community and damage your credibility ("this is no joke")?
It was a really wasted opportunity...

We got you to patch the game so we could implement jokes and fixes, and you complain that we're unfunny bad devs for scaring you. Ultimately noone was harmed and those who got to see the jokes definitely got some laughs.

Would you rather we didn't tell you? :shad:

I would take "Secret April Fools Patch" over "Your Computer Has a Serious Virus - We Are Not Joking".

  20. Good god they could have said someone launched a Trojan virus into kag's system or something and that all of our credit card accounts were at serious risk, but no, the most dangerous thing geti mentions in the post is random porn pop-ups(and that's actually quite nice)
It was just a subtle incentive to get people to patch there games that was intertwined with APRIL FOOLS DAY.
