Of course they do.
You can run all Win 7 apps on Win 8

 

Everything works on windows 8 XD. It's no different from windows 7 except for the style, but if you're smart enough like me, you would know you could theme windows 8:

Windows 8 is much faster, it only takes 3 seconds to boot on my computer compared to 20-30 on windows 7 for me.

I do have to admit that OS X isn't that shabby, it's the company behind it that i don't like it. Linux is milestone away from beating Windows or even OS X. Linux got too many distribution, lack of support from major companies, and is somewhat complicated. Installing some apps requires you to use the terminal, which is not very user friendly at all. Removing apps can be hard as well.

After a recent cleanup:

Native resolution 1366x768
Reason why my taskbar is on the left is because I can run windowed games at 768 width without the taskbar getting in the way.
